The role

Reporting to either the Manager, Aged Care Reform or the Manager, Palliative Care Reform you will:
  • Undertake research, environmental scanning and critical analysis to identify and advise on future strategic policy challenges, opportunities, priorities and issues
  • Initiate and manage, in consultation with key stakeholders (Commonwealth and State), the development of strategic policies
  • Provide expert advice and support on the development of strategic and State-wide policy and issues for Queensland Health
  • Prepare high-level briefing documents, submissions, correspondence and reports.
  • Apply contemporary human resource management practice and principles including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination requirements

The successful person

You will have:
  • High-level strategic, conceptual, leadership and analytical skills relevant to a range of social and health priority areas
  • The ability to manage projects, undertake research, interpret trends and provide detailed critical analysis of reports, discussion papers and other documentation and to provide advice on policies and strategies
  • High-level verbal communication skills, including experience confidently and clearly negotiating and presenting complex concepts and advice to internal and external stakeholders
  • High-level written communication skills, including ability to autonomously compile complex policy-related reports, discussion papers, submissions, and ministerial correspondence to a high quality

The Aged Care and Palliative Care Policy Unit (the Unit) in Social Policy and Legislation and Statutory Agencies Branch provides advice on aged care and palliative care programs and policy settings to support the integration. It also has a system stewardship role, develops strategic policy, and identifies reform opportunities and implementation pathways.
