As a Principal Policy Officer you will play a key role in ensuring the recommendations included in the Best Practice Review, are supported with strategic policy aligned to government policies, priorities, legislation and public interest.

Key Responsibilities:
The Principal Policy Officer, reporting to the Program Manager, Culture Change, is responsible for:
- Developing responsive, innovative, evidence-based, and practical policies and programs that deliver desired outcomes.
- Collaborating with other agencies or organizations as needed on various policy issues to ensure achievement of change outcomes and maintenance of standards.
- Providing briefings and high-level policy advice to key stakeholders, including the Minister, Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Program Manager, and others.
- Preparing critical correspondence, submissions, or briefing notes to support change initiatives.
- Demonstrating the ability to influence key stakeholders, groups, or individuals while maintaining productive relationships.
- Demonstrating ethical behavior and integrity as required by the Public Sector Ethics Act 1994.
Candidates will be evaluated based on the following competencies:
- Understanding how the program's objectives align with organizational objectives and the ability to deliver quality outcomes despite ambiguity.
- Demonstrating expertise in public policy processes and possessing experience in policy analysis and development.
- Making sound decisions that can be publicly upheld, based on analysis of available information, and applying sound judgment to manage risk.
- Engaging with risk courageously and constructively challenging important issues.
- Demonstrating expert written communication skills, including the preparation of complex, sensitive materials.
- Supporting a culture of achievement, striving for quality outcomes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Managing complex and sensitive consultations and negotiations with diverse stakeholders, considering varying expectations, viewpoints, and interests.
