About the team
The Estate Planning & Administration division is responsible for delivering NSW Trustee & Guardian's commercial services in Will making, as trustee, attorney, and as administrator/executor of deceased estates. The teams administer assets in accordance with the functions and obligations under the relevant legislation and makes legal decisions within legal frameworks and NSWTG's prescribed delegations. The division delivers high quality service using a customer-centred approach and is delivered by:
- Estate Administration
- Trust and Powers of Attorney Administration
- Intestate, Life Estates and Crime Confiscation/Civil Forfeiture administration
- Wills and Estate Planning
The Principal Solicitor will assume a leadership role, guiding a team of experienced, dedicated, and enthusiastic professionals in delivering sophisticated legal counsel support to the Estate Planning and Administration Division.
Within this pivotal role, the incumbent will provide comprehensive instructions related to litigation matters, actively contribute to the nuanced development, review, and implementation of intricate legislation, policies, and practice standards. Collaboration with the Knowledge and Support Team will be a cornerstone, involving active participation in the evolution of policies and precedents, the provision of training, and the meticulous maintenance of accurate data.
Additionally, the Principal Solicitor will adeptly manage cases of complexity, contention, and sensitivity, to determine which matters necessitate referral to the Legal and Professional Services Division.

About you
Our ideal candidate is an experienced solicitor or senior legal counsel with specialist accreditation in Wills and Estates law or a Master of Laws (majoring in Estate Planning/wills and estates).
To be successful in the role, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience in Estate Planning, Wills and Estates law.
- Ability to work with autonomy and accountability.
- Provide professional leadership, guidance, and supervision of complex matters.
- An ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure and to meet deadlines, and to adapt to changing priorities.
- Advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively with individuals at all levels.
- A positive, professional attitude and be self-motivated.
Essential requirements
- Legal qualifications and must be admitted to practice and have a current NSW practising certificate.
- Expert knowledge and experience in the relevant area/s of law impacting the administration of estates, trusts and powers of attorney.
- All roles in NSW Trustee and Guardian require a willingness to have phone calls monitored for monitoring and training purposes.
