This is a permanent part-time (0.5FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2024 

Yanchep Rise Primary School (PS) is seeking a passionate Library Officer to join their team for a 0.5 work fraction preferably 5 afternoons per week.

As a Library Officer you will be responsible for the provision of reference information and maintaining the resources, environment, and associated services of the school library to support the learning outcomes of students. The Library Officer also administers the library systems ensuring library records are up to date and library resources are maintained and processed so they are accessible and available to students and staff at all times. They will also be responsible for preparing and monitoring the library budget and to make recommendations for new library resources.

Experience in using the Oliver Library System would be highly desirable.

Applicants with previous experience as a library officer in a school environment are desirable.

The successful applicant will provide general clerical and library support, including preparing correspondence, booking equipment and facilities, assisting with stocktaking and monitoring and ordering consumables. You will ideally be a great library officer, who builds trust-filled, quality relationships with students, parents and staff. You should have the skills to be able to support and encourage the students to achieve the aims outlined in the Western Australian Curriculum.

The Library Officer is expected to curate library displays, enriching the educational setting for students, coordinate Bookfairs, and explore engaging incursions to celebrate Bookweek.

Yanchep Rise PS provides students from Kindergarten to Year 6 with a high-quality education, helping them to achieve to their full potential. The school has a strong focus on social and emotional learning to develop resilience and build positive behaviours.

We have developed whole school approaches to student engagement through Positive Behaviour Support and an embedded application of our school values of Respect, Integrity, Safety, Excellence and Resilience. It is expected that staff joining our team will become RISERs.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including application of customer service principles and practices.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
  • Ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Experience in providing administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
