Dhamana Consulting is a boutique consultancy based primarily out of Perth, Western Australia, with employees and associates in Hobart, Brisbane and the UK. Dhamana’s core focus is providing environmental and project management services to mining and resource companies with projects based in Africa and Western Australia.
Dhamana’s environmental team works with its clients on the management and completion of environmental impact assessments; compilation of environmental and social management plans; compliance review of environmental impact assessments and plans against global sustainability frameworks; managing resettlement action plans; and incorporating ESG and sustainability principles into planning and reporting. In completing this work, Dhamana’s personnel work in close collaboration with the owners’ team, often acting as the owner’s representative across the environmental and social aspects of the projects. Dhamana’s team focusses on meeting the varied local legislative requirements as well as global sustainability frameworks such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards, Equator Principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Dhamana is seeking applications for candidates from Associate Environmental Advisor to Principal Environmental Advisor.
The Role
The role will be to work with project teams across the following areas:
- Develop scopes and budgets to complete the environmental and social assessment and management documents in support of mining projects for inclusion in overall project plans.
- Scope work packages for external consultants, often smaller local entities based in Africa, receive tenders and make recommendation for award of work packages to clients.
- Manage the delivery of consultant work packages including progress monitoring, cost control and review of deliverables.
- Prepare environmental and social scoping studies and impact assessments including review of specialist reports and studies.
- Prepare and review environmental management plans.
- Prepare reporting for clients on cost and progress.
- Undertake Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards compliance reviews, identify gaps, and develop action plans to achieve alignment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor or Masters degree in environmental science or similar discipline.
- 15+ years of experience (depending on role and responsibility), preferably in a consulting environment with experience working in the approvals and planning space.
- Excellent written English essential.
- Experience with IFC Performance Standards in developing countries preferred.
- Experience in the mining industry and Africa highly regarded.
