The Company

U.S based Albemarle Corporation is a global specialty chemicals company with leading positions in lithium, bromine and refining catalysts. The Project

As an industry leader in lithium and lithium derivatives, one of the highest growth markets in the specialty chemicals industry, Albemarle is currently constructing a lithium processing Plant within the Kemerton Strategic Industrial Area located close to the regional Western Australian City of Bunbury.

The Plant will process ore from the Talison Mining operation at Greenbushes to produce lithium hydroxide, value-adding by downstream processing with first production scheduled in 2022.

The Role

As a Process Technology Engineer at Albemarle you will be responsible for supporting the Kemerton production team with the development and implementation of Process Technology improvement projects.  

You will have the opportunity to interact with various Albemarle global teams gain invaluable commissioning & start-up experience at the Kemerton site and possibly at our installations abroad.

Your Responsibilities

  • Ensure that corporate technical policies and standards, relevant directives and lessons learned are being considered at Kemerton
  • Develop and support the implementation of technology improvements within Kemerton Refinery (synergies), by conducting test work, plant trials, organizing vendor’s discussions, and developing process engineering design.
  • Develop and complete process data sheets for vendor interaction and confirm vendor designs
  • Identify and propose process alternatives to optimize plant commissioning, operation and debottlenecking. 
  • Realize process calculation to support improvement or sizing of equipment.
  • Document that the equipment and processes perform to the design and/or vendor performance guarantees
  • Participate in HAZOP’s and where necessary consult and assist in resolution of assigned HAZOP corrective actions.
  • Where specific experience indicates, participate in value engineering, constructability, risk reviews and support maintenance of the Continuous Improvement register.

The Candidate

To be successful in the role you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • 8+ years’ experience in a similar Process Technology role (preferably in a chemical plant)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely to all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex systems, draw significant conclusions based on fundamental principles which includes the development of process models to explain observations.
  • Proven experience defining and executing technical approaches toward new or improved processes or products.
  • Ability to work autonomously within a team environment and self-manage priorities in respect to project milestones and delivery expectations.

NB: The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment medical and complete an on- onboarding process to verify employment history, qualification and police clearance.
