About the Role
The Producer is entrusted with the comprehensive production oversight of all Conservatorium concerts, events, and programs. With a primary focus on strategic forward planning and seamless handover to operational staff, the Producer manages contracts, budgets, and scheduling while fostering high-level interdepartmental communication and cultivating a collaborative and positive operational culture. The role, reporting directly to the Artistic Operations Manager, involves supervising contracted artists and close collaboration with academic, professional colleagues, and various university teams within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assist the Artistic Operations Manager with any research, development or budgeting work required for future productions.
  • High level communication with the Artistic Operations Manager, Conservatorium Director and Conservatorium Programming Committee to provide regular updates ensuring effective management of the program.
  • Provide day-to-day management of the producing function within the Conservatorium, supporting the Artistic Operations Manager to ensure that all work at the Faculty is produced and presented safely, in the best possible circumstances, and to a high quality
  • Develop a two-year rolling programming plan with the Artistic Operations Manager and Conservatorium Programming Committee.
  • In conjunction with the Artistic Operations Manager, negotiate contracts with relevant artists, consultants, musicians, and other staff as well as with venues, licensors, etc.
Who We Are Looking For
You will bring your negotiation skills, strong project management abilities, and excellent communication for both collaborative and independent work.
You will also have:
  • Relevant industry experience, preferably within an orchestra or musical institution, enabling the role to be performed effectively, including empathy and passion for the artistic process and an intuitive understanding of the needs of creatives and artists.
  • Strong knowledge of Music and orchestral production including music preparation, instrumental needs and considerations, music language and terminology, ensemble setups and stage requirements, lighting, sound, and digital & streaming requirements.
  • Comprehensive industry experience, with strong national and international networks in the music and arts sector.
  • Experience of touring productions or events either domestically or internationally.
  • Strong financial and contract management skills, with a proven ability to manage and control large, complex budgets and contracts.
  • Tertiary qualifications (or progress towards) or equivalent with relevant industry experience or equivalent combination.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
