Your future role
Austin is on the hunt for a skilled and experienced Product Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in Kewdale for full-time, permanent employment!
The Product Design Engineer is responsible for generating product application designs that meet both internal and external customer requirements. This role involves utilizing sound engineering principles and practices while ensuring compliance with all relevant Australian Standards and Austin Engineering procedures.
The Ideal Candidate
- Will have a minimum 6 years' experience in Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing; or mechanical design experience in the heavy fabrication industry
- Proficiency in 3D solid model design packages.
- Knowledge and experience with CREO design software or its equivalent.
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing with a proactive approach to promoting this concept.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications is desirable.
- Practical workshop experience is highly valued, demonstrating hands-on expertise and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings.
- Shop floor experience as a fitter or boilermaker turned-design-engineer is an added advantage, offering practical insight into manufacturing processes and enhancing technical problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of PDM/PLM tools, such as Windchill, is desirable
- Design experience with heavy metal fabrications, reverse engineering techniques and sheet metals is preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering and manufacturing
- 6+ years' experience in Mechanical Engineering and manufacturing, or mechanical design experience in heavy fabrication
- Sound knowledge on engineering and designing software e.g. CREO, SolidWorks
- Member of Engineers Australia (CP Engineer preferred)
- Proven track record of successful mine site visits and hands-on experience in industrial environments.
