Address Advitech is looking for an inspired and experienced Product Designer to join our product development team.
You will work in a small team (2-4 members initially) of multidiscipline professionals (electronic, mechanical, etc) and be focused on developing one to two technical products. You will partner closely with the Product Manager to fully capture and define the industry problem you are investigating, and then use your skills to communicate the problem and concept solutions to a broader audience of technical specialists, investors, and market early adopters.
You will work closely with engineering specialists to defend the aesthetic and functional aspects of the product concept through detailed design to prototyping and production. You will travel with the product and maintain a sense of ownership right through to product maturity in the marketplace.
This role would suit someone comfortable and confident at being a social investigator – going into a variety of complex work environments (medical, defence, scientific, industrial etc) and being brave enough to ask ‘dumb’ questions initially to become an ‘expert’ in something you may not initially know anything about (ie. medical procedures or defence activities).
Responsibilities
Lead the design of scientific products across the complete product lifecycle.
Lead early investigation of customer needs, definition of the market problem and all factors involved, leading of ideation sessions, interviews etc.
Formulate solution architectures and product concepts to communicate to and lead engineering specialists in what a product should look like and do for the customer, and the rationale behind it.
Production of high-quality digital animations, visualisations, 3D models and renderings.
Lead Design for Manufacture (DfM) studies using broad knowledge of manufacturing processes and the influence of factors such as product geometry, materials and product quantity on selection.
Lead the design of manufacturing arrangements (either internally or outsourced) including design of jigs and fixtures.
Basic project management including project budgets and estimates.
Extensional Responsibilities
Administration of CAD and/or product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
Manufacture and assembly of functional demonstrators using a variety of rapid prototyping techniques.
Negotiating with suppliers, management of buying prototypes etc.
About You
Industrial design qualifications are preferable, however, a significant portfolio of entrepreneurial “maker” or trade experience will also be highly regarded.
To be successful in this role, you will meet the following essential criteria:
Bachelor of Industrial Design
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role
Significant trade, industry or maker experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Product Designers meeting the following desirable criteria will be considered favourably:
Systems engineering in rail, defence or medical
