About the role:
The position of Product Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for maintaining safe, compliant and reliable freight rolling stock, while maximizing performance and profitability. This position will be providing effective engineering solutions to emerging fleet issues and the introduction of new equipment whilst supporting the development of industry leading maintenance and overhaul procedures by providing expert technical advice to internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities of the position:
Generic:
• Actively support Progress Rail vision and values
• Promote Vision Zero and the Rail Division Six Pillars of Safety across all Progress Rail activities
• Build effective business relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders
Specific:
• Development of component repair and overhaul scopes of work.
• Delivers on engineering design change FRACAS investigations and resolution of technical issues.
• Supports the development of the Technical Maintenance Plan (TMP) and corrective and preventative maintenance procedures.
• Provides Engineering support for major overhauls / in sourced work.
• Supports development of a life cycle cost (LCC) model, condition based monitoring (CBM) and predicting the future reliability of the fleet.
• Supports development of technical Training Material
• Suggests process improvements to drive efficiency
• Provides expert technical information and / or reports to internal and external stakeholders
• Explores alternative and creative solutions to meeting the needs of the customer
• Delivers to customer expectations and service standards, in the areas of timeliness, information transfer, availability and reliability.
Qualifications & Training for the role:
- 2+ years’ experience within a similar role.
- Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
Employees Experience and Knowledge:
- Previous experience within a heavy maintenance environment.
• Ability to conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and develop effective engineering solutions.
• Identification of technical risks and preparation of risk assessments.
• Expert knowledge and understanding of aspects of rolling stock mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of relevant Australian and international rolling stock standards.
• Knowledge of engineering processes, including failure-reporting, investigations and engineering change.
• Good working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of software.
