This is a two-year fixed term full-time position commencing in Term 2, 2024

Are you ready to engage in a new leadership role?

Narrogin Senior High School is seeking to establish a Program CoordinatorHighly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) role to continue to strengthen the Quality Teaching supporting Learning (QTL) agenda in this high-quality regional setting. This position will actively support the Regional Graduate Teacher Hub, while also enabling graduate teachers to progress and develop their skills and career progression using the Professional Standards for Teachers in Western Australia (PSTWA).

The Program Coordinator - HALT, in collaboration with the Principal and members of the senior leadership team, provides educational instructional leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision, core values and service principles.

Under the leadership of the Principal and Leadership team, the suitable applicant will use established and agreed improvement strategies to implement effective Quality Teaching and Learning practices across all Learning Areas in line with the school’s Business Plan and QTL framework.

The Program Coordinator will work in a culturally responsive and context specific manner to productively and respectfully engage stakeholders.

Suitable applicants will facilitate workforce effectiveness and provide a role model for self-development to improve professional performance.

The Program Co-ordinator – HALT contributes to the engagement of the school plan through participative decision making, including assisting in developing policy and establishing and maintaining systems.

The role is also responsible for establishing and managing administrative and operational systems in the relevant area of responsibility to ensure the effective operation of the school within departmental policy and guidelines.

The program co-ordinator will work in a culturally responsive and context specific manner to productively and respectfully engage stakeholders.

An outstanding ability to demonstrate innovative, bold and creative solutions and a proven track record in working collaboratively to solve complex problems, are essential to this position. Additionally, the role may include:

  • Classroom teaching – up to 0.6FTE
  • Instructional leadership
  • Mentoring staff with a particular focus on new, international and graduate teachers where applicable
  • Delivering professional learning
  • Providing feedback to assist teacher proficiency expectations.

Our School

Narrogin SHS is an Independent Public School and situated in the heart of Western Australia's rich agricultural area and with over 550 students we are the largest Senior High School in the region, with three local feeder primary schools and TAFE that work closely with the school. Narrogin is a major service and educational centre approximately two hours drive (193 km) from Perth and has the convenience of a country town with the benefits of a regional city. The hinterland is a farming area, with grain and wool production the major primary activities. The town’s motto Love the Life is true to form with many activities and events for everyone to enjoy. Narrogin SHS is currently in our third year of the Fogarty EDvance school improvement program as such, we are on an improvement agenda focused on improving student outcomes through consistent approaches to pedagogy and positive behaviour strategies. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of settings.
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students, (eg. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
