Job description

The opportunity:

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of transgender youth? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to contribute to ground-breaking research that aims to improve the healthcare and wellbeing of transgender children and adolescents.

As a Program Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in coordinating the research activities of the Australian Research Consortium for Trans Youth and Children (ARCTYC) and the Transgender Health Research Group at MCRI. This includes managing the program of work under the direction of Associate Professor Ken Pang and coordinating communications, research ethics, and research translation activities.

Ideal candidates for this position possess clinical research and project management experience, along with strong people and organisational skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, manage various projects, and adapt to changing demands. Experience in transgender health is valued, while lived experience of gender diversity is desirable.

About your new team

Recent years have seen a significant increase in referrals of young transgender individuals to specialist gender services. The prevalence of young people identifying as transgender is higher than previously thought, highlighting the critical need for optimal clinical care. Unfortunately, many transgender youth face significant mental health challenges due to lack of access to gender-affirming healthcare. Our team at the Royal Children’s Hospital Gender Service (RCHGS) and the Transgender Health Research Group at MCRI are dedicated to addressing this need through pioneering research and clinical care.

What’s in it for you?

  • Opportunity to contribute to ground-breaking research in transgender health
  • Maximise your pay through salary packaging including entertainment and novated leases
  • Enjoy flexible and hybrid working options
  • You will have access to ongoing learning and development opportunities, allowing you to enhance your skills and expertise in clinical research
  • We value our employees, which is why we offer a health and wellbeing program including free access to an Employee Assistance Program

Your responsibilities include:

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of planning, development and establishment for a range of research projects across ARCTYC, to ensure these projects are planned, resourced and implemented to quality standards and within agreed scope and budget
  • Liaise and work cohesively and collaboratively with all internal and external ARCTYC stakeholders
  • Ensure appropriate mechanisms are in place for all ARCTYC projects, including ethics requirements, research and data governance, risk management, reporting, and compliance with funding and contractual obligations
  • Convene, facilitate and lead ARCTYC meetings across its various streams of work to achieve project outcomes
  • Manage competing priorities/deadlines to deliver ARTYC projects in a timely manner

What we need from you:

  • Masters/PhD qualification in relevant field (e.g. Public Health, Mental Health)
  • Extensive experience in project management – including project planning, monitoring and  evaluation - and bringing a project to fruition within budget and within the agreed time frame
  • Proven experience in navigating and negotiating with multiple organisations and professional groups within a project management framework
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to lead and mentor employees in order to deliver project outcomes
  • Experience in transgender health is high regarded
  • Lived experience of gender diversity is desirable
