We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Renewable Energy Project Director to lead the delivery of renewable energy projects, including Wind Farms, Solar Farms, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This role is responsible for the overall delivery of projects from the late-stage development phase through to construction start-up and up to hand over to operations. This role is ultimately responsible for the safe delivery of the project and all quality, cost and schedule outcomes of the construction. The role also has overall responsibility for the management of external relationships during the construction phase. The role will require significant upstream and downstream stakeholder and customer engagement at senior management level and comprehensive experience of project delivery in a high-pressure commercial environment.Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Health, safety and environment:
Promotes a positive safety and environmental culture, especially on site
Actively contributes to safety initiatives, safety in design and has a commitment to achieving zero harm
Overall responsibility for safety outcomes of the project.
Makes themselves aware of all the HSEQ responsibilities as detailed in business strategies, policies and procedures.
Ensures implementation of compliance with all relevant HSEQ policies, procedures and relevant legislative requirements.
Project Management
Oversee and provide leadership across core project management responsibilities’ in order to co-ordinate, control and report on the project during all phases. This primarily includes:
Providing project management and delivery input into the late stage development activities, including; input into management plans, negotiations with key delivery partners and construction input into upstream agreements (e.g. PPAs)
Report to the business on progress, key project indicators, issues and risks.
External Stakeholder Management including; State Government, AEMO, TNSPs, land owners, LGA, etc.
Assist with the selection of an integrated project management team
Leadership of safety in all project areas.
Manage project communications at all levels.
Maintain a comprehensive and well organized set of project records.
Ensure adherence and reporting with particular respect to project schedule on a monthly basis.
Manage and report on project budgets and costs on a monthly basis.
Extensive senior leadership experience and a proven track record in leading high performing teams.
Highly developed communication skills, written and verbal; engaging, high energy, positive, outcomes focused, articulate with expectations.
Procurement
The Project Director is responsible for managing the procurement processes through the procurement department for all contracts, including long lead items and construction contracts. This primarily includes:
Provide input into the overall procurement strategy, including scheduling, packaging of work and tender processes.
Overseeing the project team to ensure the tender process is followed
Completing tender assessments, leading contract negotiations and making recommendations for contract award.
Ensuring contract award approval processes is adhered to.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Management.
- Proven experience in delivering Wind Farms, Solar Farms, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
- Must have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in Project Management, representing either the Principal or the EPC Contractor
- A demonstrated high level of commercial acumen, with a proven ability to navigate complex deal structures.
- Demonstrated capacity to work for a multitude of internal and external clients with conflicting interests and priorities. Demonstrated capacity to influence outcomes.
- Demonstrated capacity to develop and manage relationships to ensure outcomes are achieved as harmoniously as possible.
- Demonstrated capacity to present to C-Level Executives.
