About The Role:
The Project Director is a critical leadership role reporting into the Program Director, Asset Development & Construction. The role is the advocate and accountable owner of the Darling Downs Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project, a critical new infrastructure project that will support the Generation of circa 250MW of new renewable energy sources.
The Project Director will lead the successful implementation of the project from FEED through to implementation and operation. Key to leading this project will be a deep understanding of delivering complex projects from the client side including funding arrangements, consideration of regulatory, legal, community, government, stakeholder requirements, program, budgeting, procurement, contract negotiation and resourcing.

- Lead by example in setting HSE behaviours and developing an HSE-focused safety-first culture on site.
- Building a high-performing team in all disciplines comprising safety, environment, engineering, procurement, contract management, construction, commissioning
- Manage the end-to-end cost, schedule, risk & opportunity, and quality assurance from development initiation through construction, commissioning and handover to Operations of the Darling Downs BESS Project, with a capital expenditure of over $500 million.
- Establish and manage contracts for the delivery of the project and monitor contractor performance based on best-in-class project control methods.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and encourage high performance and collaborative behaviours in a matrixed organisation.
- Given the scale and importance of the project, broad stakeholder engagement will be critical to the successful completion of the project. Therefore, it will require a good network with government, Transmission Network Service Providers (TNSPs) and comfort in engaging local communities.
- Build a team to drive the project to a successful outcome and work collaboratively with matrix staff across Origin. This will include working closely with the other members of the Asset Development & Construction team to ensure Origin is leveraging its insight, relationship, and network to optimise the outcomes across the business.
What will you bring?
- Management and leadership of significant capital projects of similar scope and complexity.
- Experience delivering projects as Project Director for Tier 1 contractors and international owner-organisations.
- Extensive experience in project leadership roles, with a minimum of 15 years of demonstrated expertise.
- Tertiary qualification in Project Management and/or related Engineering (Electrical preferred) discipline
- Deep knowledge of Project Management and Construction management systems and principles.
- Demonstrated ability to manage significant EPC and D&C contracts and procurement.
- Expert in project controls and associated tools to manage productivity and progress.
- Acted as Contract or Company Representative on a major contract >$100 million.
- Demonstrated ability prepare and present written reports and presentations to a high standard.
