Project Engineer – Renewable (Solar & BESS)

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Project Engineer (Electrical/Grid) to join our dynamic team in Sydney. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our development team in advancing various PV, BESS, and hybrid projects to RTB (ready to build) status. This position encompasses a broad spectrum, involving planning, engineering, and grid connection aspects across projects in various stages of development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the development team to comprehend specific grid connection and planning requirements for new sites.
- Develop proficiency in utilizing publicly available data sources and foster collaboration with HEA's project partners.
- Work closely with the commercial team to formulate suitable CAPEX and OPEX cost estimates related to project development.
- Support the submission of connection enquiries, preliminary enquiries, and engage in early discussions with NSP’s.
- Create concept electrical engineering designs (SLD and general arrangements) and understand spatial requirements for equipment and substation locations.
- Assist in the development of RFQ’s and coordinate the engagement of consultants to support the development process.
- Facilitate the preparation of grid connection and planning studies by consultants.
- Participate in negotiating technical requirements with relevant NSP’s, councils, and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with key OEM(s) to develop technical solutions tailored for each project, considering portfolio-wide implications.
Work Experience & Skills:
- Tertiary Electrical Engineering qualifications or similar - Essential.
- Experience in solar PV and/or battery energy storage systems – Desirable.
- Familiarity with NEM grid connection requirements, including the National Electricity Rules and relevant AEMO/NSP requirements.
- Knowledge of DA and planning requirements.
- Familiarity with power system modelling software, including PSSe and PSCAD
- Familiarity with AutoCad or similar CAD tools
- A current driver's license – Essential.
