Who we are
NORSTA Maritime is the Regional Maintenance Provider for both the North (Darwin) and North-East (Cairns, Head Office) regions, delivering project management capabilities, technical expertise and quality assurance activities for the Royal Australian Navy fleet.
Our advanced maritime sustainment planning coordinates fleet maintenance at scale across Far North Queensland, Northern Australia and adjacent waters for the Commonwealth of Australia.
Due to high demand, we are expanding rapidly and developing further capacity for more vessel platforms.
Note: This position requires Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance (minimum Baseline).
About the role
As Project Finance Officer, you drive efficient financial management across Maintenance Services projects from start to finish. You will ensure on-budget, on-target outcomes by monitoring project expenses, analyzing financial data, and collaboration with stakeholders to meet project and financial KPIs. You take responsibility for establishing, maintaining and evaluating all data within financial tools. Should there be anomalies, you will communicate and highlight these to stakeholders, seeking clarity and explanation for the differences.
Some (but not all) responsibilities include
- Establish, maintain and track data in the Project Cost Sheet (PCS) ensuring all data is promptly and accurately updated in the workbook;
- Ensure supporting documentation to the workbook is complete and accurate.
- Verify project expenses against approved budget;
- Bring to the attention of Project Managers cost overruns or anomalies that may require commentary in the workbook and investigate where necessary.
- Provide detailed financial information from the PCS and other sources to assist and support Maintenance Services and Finance staff to address any discussions with suppliers or external stakeholders.
About you
You are an experienced bookkeeper or financial officer (at least five years), preferably with at least two years' experience in project accounting. You are considered to be an Excel whiz, with demonstrated experience in advanced Excel functions such as data manipulation and pivot tables. You have strong analytical skills with the ability to dissect complex financial data and identify trends and anomalies. You also display high financial integrity by fearlessly asking the right questions to evaluate variances. You work well independently but thrive in a high-performing and positive team environment.
Your skills include:
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and demonstrated experience in data manipulation, complex formula and pivot tables
- Demonstrated experience in manipulation and management of large data sets
- High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Aptitude for number, logic and mathematics
- Familiarity with financial accounting software packages such as SAP.
Qualifications:
- Certificate IV in Finance/Accounting/ Bookkeeping
- Finance project management experience
