Resumption of operations has recently commenced, and you have an opportunity to be part of an outstanding Geology team.
The Role
The Project Geologist contributes and provides technical support to the Geology Department and assists with the overall support of the mining operation. You will provide quality and accurate geological information, processed in a timely manner, adhering to all statutory requirements and company safety, health and environmental standards. Your role is to ensure the best overall production outcome, in accordance with FML policies and procedures whilst maintaining strict compliance with relevant legislative and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Take an active approach to identifying, mitigating and reporting hazards associated with departmental tasks, to make a safe working environment.
- Act in a team leader role to provide mentoring, coaching and support, to ensure ongoing professional development with the achievement of a positive workplace culture that reflects Focus Minerals’ values.
- Communicate on a daily basis to all production teams, and delegate daily tasks to ensure daily production plans can be delivered.
- Coordinate the design, schedule and oversee drilling programs to ensure the provision of timely and accurate data for analysis, ensuring a high level of data quality and interpretation. Provide recommendations for future work programs on the basis of results.
- Ensure a high level of communication and coordination occurs with open pit and drill & blast contractors to ensure our KPI’s and production targets are met, whilst maintaining strict geological controls.
- Oversee the analysis, interpretation and modelling of geological data, and contribute to mine planning reviews to communicate relevant geological data.
- Facilitate the ore extraction process to ensure the mine plan is correctly followed and minimise the risk of ore dilution and maximise recovery.
- Contribute to geological mapping and the instruction of Mine Geologists in producing good quality geological maps. This will also entail updating geological and ore wireframes in Vulcan Geology Core processes.
- Assist with weekly and monthly reporting, support any presentational requirements when needed.
- Liaise with mine planning engineers, pit supervisors, metallurgists and other mining professionals as required, promoting inter-team communication.
- Strive to improve geological understanding of pit mineralisation by ensuring mapping, logging, sampling is performed regularly and documented adequately.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Bachelor of Science (Geology Major) or equivalent
- Experience in a similar role, minimum 4 years in a mining environment
- Experience with Vulcan 3D Software, Leapfrog, or equivalent 3D programs
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and exhibit good listening and decision making skills
- Ability to think strategically and commercially, approach solutions creatively and consider organisation-wide impacts
- Well-developed analytical, report and presentational skills
- Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
- Developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation
- Valid WA C class manual driver's license
