The Access and Public Engagement Branch is the public face of National Archives of Australia, delivering description, examination, and reference and research services, exhibition, education and lifelong learning programs, publishing, websites, marketing, and events nationally. All public engagement programs and services support National Archives key role of providing an accessible, visible, and interpreted national archival collection.
The Public Programs section is responsible for developing and delivering interpreted, engaging, and curated programs and exhibitions aimed at providing access to the national archival collection in the richest possible ways. Public Programs develops and delivers programs onsite, offsite, and online through exhibitions – touring, temporary and permanent – lifelong learning programs, school programs and digital experience.
Under limited direction the main duties of the role are to:
- Manage and deliver National Archives exhibition programs, including the delivery of major exhibitions and redevelopment projects, the ongoing development and maintenance of National Archives changeover program, and assist with the management of the exhibition touring program including the development of touring exhibitions and offsite installs where required.
- Understand and apply effective planning, coordination, and control measures, including preparing clear project proposals and defining scope and goals in measurable terms. Prepare accurate estimates of costs and resources required for projects.
- Supervise staff and manage small project teams to deliver outcomes that may involve procurement of services in line with agreed timeframes. Contribute to positive leadership of the section.
- Think, analyse and consider the broader context to develop practical solutions. Research and analyse information to make recommendations based on relevant evidence and be willing to seek input from others.
- Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality exhibition outcomes.
- Understand and apply financial processes to achieve value for money, including a good knowledge of Government Procurement practices to ensure effective purchasing and contract performance.
- Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity principles, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.
- Promote and apply the National Archives’ Vision, Mission and Commitments as expressed in Strategy 2030 and Our Values.
Relevant tertiary qualifications and demonstrated experience working in a cultural institution are highly desirable.
Eligibility: To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Baseline clearance level.
