Overview
Due to extensive remedial building works on a historic house museum, you will be documenting the entire house museum collection and packing objects for transportation to an off-site collection storage warehouse.
About the role
- Recording basic object condition details in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet
- Documenting usual locations for objects throughout the house museum using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, detailed room plans, photography and videography
- Labelling and packing objects for off-site transport and storage
- Carrying out basic preventative object conservation where required (tasks include brush vacuuming and swab cleaning)
- Ensuring all digital files are organised in Microsoft SharePoint according to project requirements
- Prior to project commencement you will be fully briefed on site and trained in object handling and packing techniques, basic preventative conservation, data recording and object documentation procedures
- Laptops, a Wi-Fi dongle and other essential materials will be provided. You will be required to use your own camera for object photography and videography
- Due to the nature of the site, all staff are required to wear a P2 mask at all times inside the house museum
- This role may be either full-time or part-time (Monday to Friday) depending on your availability. Estimated project duration of three months is based on a team of four full-time equivalent Project Officer roles
About you
- Demonstrated ability in using Microsoft Office suite programs (specifically Excel, Word and SharePoint)
- Basic understanding of museum collections management software systems (Vernon or similar) desirable but not essential
- Museum object handling experience desirable but not essential
- Cultural materials conservation experience or qualification desirable but not essential
- Basic photography and videography skills (using a mobile phone or digital camera)
- Reliable with highly effective time management and organisational skills
- Systematic approach to projects and processes
- A friendly and positive attitude with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team or individually as required
- Strong written and oral communication skills
