Job description

  • Be directly involved in projects aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities in rural areas.

  • Full-time fixed term basis for 24 months.
  • Base salary range (Level 5): $76,422– $84,705 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area
The Western Australian Centre for Rural Health (WACRH) is administered by the University of Western Australia and is part of a network of University Departments of Rural Health across Australia. WACRH is located in various towns and cities across the Midwest and Pilbara regions of WA with its main office in Geraldton and a second office in Karratha. This position will be located in the Karratha office but may require travel to other sites in the Pilbara.

About the opportunity
You will liaise with Pilbara communities, workforce agencies, education providers, stakeholders and service partners to participate and collaborate in WACRH projects throughout WACRH’s Pilbara footprint. You will provide support to WACRH to develop Aboriginal Health Education programs to support Pilbara Communities, contribute to analysis and report on health workforce data and support in the development of strategies to recruit and retain a local health workforce. You will support WACRH to undertake internal and external program evaluations, contributing to design, analysis and reporting.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent competency
  • Demonstrated knowledge and cultural understanding of the Pilbara region and its Aboriginal communities with an ability to liaise/mentor health professionals and students through knowledge of the local Aboriginal communities
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work effectively with Aboriginal people

Note: This position also requires the following:

  • Provision of a Current National Police Clearance
  • A current “C” class driver’s licence
  • A current Working with Children Check
  • Ability to undertake rural travel
