Moorditj Koort Aboriginal Corporation (MKAC) is an Aboriginal community controlled, not-for-profit organisation supporting the health and wellness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples living in Western Australia.

Position summary:
The Indigenous Health Project Officer (IHPO) holds a non-clinical role focused on enhancing the capacity of mainstream primary care services to provide culturally safe health services. responsibilities include increasing awareness of programs like the Practice Incentive Program Indigenous Health Incentive (PIP IHI) and PBS Co-payment among general practice and primary care providers.
The Integrated Team Care (ITC) is a nationwide program aimed at enhancing the health outcomes for First Nation individuals dealing with chronic conditions. Within this framework, the IHPO role involves supporting and guiding the ITC workforce.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promote and educate local practices on the PIP IHI and assist them with client registration.
- Promote and educate local practices on the PBS Co—payment and assist them practice and client registration.
- Advocate for improved First Nations health in mainstream general practice among general practice staff, local stakeholders and primary care providers.
- Identify and address barriers experienced by First Nation individuals in accessing mainstream primary healthcare services.
- Develop and complete strategies to enhance the accessibility of mainstream primary healthcare for First Nation people.
- Create and distribute resources tailored to First Nations communities to facilitate access to services and manage chronic diseases effectively.
- Develop and implement strategies to boost the utilization of First Nations -specific Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) items, such as 721 GP Management Plan and follow-up services.
- Undertake the management of the Integrated Team Care (ITC) team.
The successful candidate must have the following essential certifications.
- Certification in Health Promotion and/or another relevant health related field such as Aboriginal Health Practitioner/Nursing
- WA Valid Driver’s license
- Police Clearance no more than 3 months old
- Valid Working with children’s check
- First Aid or willing to obtain.
- COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
- Demonstrated high level communication skills necessary for working with health care providers, Aboriginal communities and Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community agencies in order to facilitate ultimate care for the client.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills with a strong team orientation and customer focus
- Demonstrated problem solving skills in order to develop strategies, ideas and opportunities for resolving issues.
- Sound oral and written communication skills including report writing.
- Sound computer skills including use of MS Office Word, Outlook and Excel
