The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Aboriginal health or community services professional to work within the Palliative and Supportive Care Education (PaSCE) team. The PaSCE team offer a variety of programs which are aimed at increasing Health Care Professionals’ knowledge and understanding of palliative care.
The Aboriginal Project Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander component of the Indigenous Program of Experience in a Palliative Approach (IPEPA), within Western Australia. This is a palliative care education initiative funded by the Australian Government Department of Health under the National Palliative Care Program. Queensland University of Technology (QUT) runs this national program and CCWA is the subcontractor of IPEPA for Western Australia.
Based in Subiaco, this position is part-time (0.4FTE) fixed term until 31 December 2024. Hours of work are flexible, however there is a requirement to work on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
What you’ll be doing:
- Plan, implement and evaluate the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander clinical placements, workshops and palliative care education programs in Western Australia.
- Support the Coordinator and collaboratively deliver the Aboriginal health worker workshops and Cultural Awareness workshops and community engagement session throughout the state.
- Plan and support the coordination of the Aboriginal health worker clinical placements as outlined by National PEPA.
- Participate in program reporting and processes
- Foster partnerships with relevant Aboriginal health care providers across the state to strengthen and improve the delivery of Indigenous PEPA.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts
About you:
- A tertiary qualification in a health-related field or demonstrated work experience in Aboriginal health-related sector
- Sound knowledge and understanding of WA Aboriginal communities and health services
- Broad knowledge and awareness of best practice when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities through respecting diversity, cultural values, lore of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples during experiences such as the end-of-life journey (finishing up time)
- High level proficiency in the use of software applications, including Microsoft Suite
- Strong numeracy and data entry skills
- High level of verbal and written communication skills
- Current West Australian Driver’s License
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA
