About the Position
ALS Coal Technology is seeking 2 Project Officers in a full-time capacity to manage projects from project setup to generating reports for customers within the Coal Technology Business. At Coal Technology our focus is on the end-user utilisation of metallurgical and thermal coals. This role will focus on the validation and reporting of Metallurgical coals for steelmaking and Petrography analysis for the characterisation of coals.
One position will be based within the Petrography Lab located at ALS Richlands and one at our Coking facility at ALS Riverview (Ipswich).
Hours of work are Monday to Friday, typically 8am - 4pm and the primary focus of the role will be to manage the day-to-day project support for the Coal Technology team. Experience in coal quality, coal mining and/or end-use utilisation industries would be advantageous however full training will be provided to the successful applicant.
The Riverview site operates a 450 kg pilot scale coke oven, along with bench scale coke ovens which produce coke that is assessed for steelmaking performance. The Petrography Lab utilises various microscopic techniques to evaluate a coal's rank and type.
In this role you will have functional working relationships with managers, technicians, and clients.
Position Synopsis
The position responsibilities and requirements include but are not limited to:
- Ensure technical integrity of all coal and associated analytical data produced by the Carbonisation and Petrography team.
- Ensure implementation and compliance with the company’s quality procedures and associated standards.
- Data entry with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Sample Receipt of incoming samples
- Develop skills and knowledge of Coke-making test work and Petrography Analysis.
- Petrography and Coking job-set up and management of client purchase orders
- Validate and coordinate laboratory analysis.
- Validation and reporting of shipping/superintending, production and borecore petrography samples.
- Timely and accurate completion of reports with high attention to detail.
- Assisting management by providing and delivering a comprehensive range of administrative and client services to customers.
- Demonstrating commitment to continuous improvement strategies .
The ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of 1 years’ experience in administration.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in coal quality, coal mining and/or end-use utilisation industries would be advantageous.
- Effective written communication skills for liaison with clients, management, and co-workers.
- Demonstrated ability to maximise output and customer focus.
- Comprehensive computer/software skills particularly in Microsoft Office.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills including the Ability to be flexible.
