Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system.
The organisation will drive delivery of world-class pumped hydro assets to provide the long-term storage and reliability needed to power Queensland’s clean energy future. The organisation will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system.
The role
The Development Group is responsible for overseeing the growth and development of Queensland Hydro into a world class business by supporting the organisation in setting up to deliver projects aligned to business case and corporate targets and prepare the business to evolve to be the eventual owner and operator of significant hydropower assets.
The Project Quality Manager role will be based on the beautiful Sunshine Coast at Nambour and will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, championing high-quality construction and operation standards, managing risks, optimizing cost efficiency, and prioritizing stakeholder satisfaction.
The Project Quality Manager will play a critical role to ensure the Principal Contractor’s quality management systems are in line with Queensland Hydro requirements throughout the project lifecycle. The Project Quality Manager will oversee long-term performance objectives to deliver a sustainable and successful pumped hydroelectric project that meets the needs of our community and stakeholders.
The key accountabilities are to:
- Oversee and manage the review and acceptance of all contractor and vendor quality management documentation including Quality Management Plans (QMP), Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Manufacturing Data Reports (MDRs), Vendor Records, amongst others.
- Lead the internal development and implementation of Queensland Hydro's quality management systems throughout the entire project lifecycle, encompassing planning, design, construction, commissioning, and operation. Ensure strict adherence to contract conditions, industry standards/regulations, and company specifications.
- Conduct thorough reviews of all quality specifications to guarantee comprehensive coverage of QA/QC project deliverables as per contractual obligations. Implement effective processes to ensure the attainment of these deliverables.
- Coordinate the ongoing review and surveillance of contractor lot records. to maintain quality control standards.
- Ensure alignment between the contractor’s quality systems & processes and the project's quality objectives, standards, and requirements.
- Develop and maintain an audit and surveillance program, conducting audits and reporting findings in line with business and project requirements.
- Establish and maintain effective supplier quality management processes which may include regular assessments of supplier performance, addressing any quality issues or non-conformities promptly, and fostering collaborative relationships with suppliers to ensure continuous improvement in quality and reliability of supplied goods and services. Overseas visits of suppliers may be required.
- Design and deliver quality related training to our delivery partners, suppliers, and the project team.
- Compile and present accurate and reliable data and analytics to senior management stakeholders across the business and project
- Coordinate project assurance governance bodies, including the Queensland Government Project Steering Group, the Independent Expert Technical Review Panel and project Gateway Review Team.
- Provide support to the project team in implementing digital engineering practices and processes.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
- 10 years + in related field of quality management with proven experience in managing Quality Management Systems on large infrastructure projects.
- Exposure to hydroelectric projects highly regarded.
- Current and Valid Australian Drivers license
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of quality management principles and methodologies
- Ability to set up and maintain a common data environment for quality related records.
- Analytical abilities to assess quality metrics, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
- Knowledge of international standards including ISO 9001.
- A hands-on service delivery mindset to the provision of quality management systems and their application.
- Strong knowledge of systems applications, requirements, configuration, development and use e.g. InEight/TeamBinder
- Strong leadership and team management skills with a focus on fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and manage multiple stakeholders.
