About the Role

The main purpose of this position is to co-ordinate and perform the prosecutorial & Infringement Review functions and responsibilities for the City Safety department.  

Ensuring the delivery of responsive, effective, and efficient processes, more specifically, the position will deliver specialist advice, evidentiary analysis, research, initiation of legal proceedings, technical training support for staff and prosecutorial advocacy (including the negotiation of alternative outcomes) at the Magistrates' Court, Neighbourhood Justice Centre and other legal forums for City Safety departments functions and enforcement of related matters.

Skills and Experience

  • Hold a thorough knowledge of the Magistrates Court & VCAT system and possess a working Knowledge of the relevant legislation such as Infringements Act 2006, Domestic Animals Act 1994 & the Local Government Act 1989/2020.
  • Formal qualifications (a degree in law or other relevant tertiary qualification) or substantial experience in dealing with all aspects of Prosecutions, including knowledge of the relevant Acts, Court procedures and legislative process.
  • Relevant experience in preparing and prosecuting matters in the Magistrates Court and VCAT.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to respond to challenging situations effectively and appropriately with the ability to successfully negotiate and achieve successful outcomes.
