The Position:
The successful applicant(s) will provide and promote high quality and patient centred care with the mental health assessment, treatment and management of clients with mental health illness in the area under the supervision of Consultant Psychiatrist. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, work to achieve National, State and South Metropolitan Health Service performance standards and the National Safety and Quality Healthcare Standards.
- Provide a high-quality medical service based on the principles of evidence-based medicine and best practice.
- Provide timely and efficient mental health and medical assessment and treatment planning for consumers of the Service using evidence based comprehensive assessment including risk assessment and contemporaneous clinical practice guidelines.
- Take part in scheduled clinics or inpatient activities across the service clinical teams, attend and contribute at all case reviews, ward rounds and intake meetings. Provide timely and appropriate medical inputs to the multidisciplinary team processes.
- Appropriately seek advice and supervision from consultant psychiatrists according to the Mental Health Service policies; and use of a risk assessment / management approach in decision-making.
- Actively promote the participation of the consumer and their family members in care planning and their recovery process. Promoting consumer involvement in their care involves providing information that is accessible to their level of understanding, to discussing options for treatment and listening and taking patients’ and families’ concerns and goals into account.
- Any other appropriate duties as may be required by the Director of Clinical Services.
Eligibility:
To be successful in this role you must have MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Clinical experience and skills or interest in developing skills in Psychiatry.
- Demonstrated skills in reviewing, analysing and evaluating patient care.
- High level of verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to all levels of staff and hospital clients from a variety of backgrounds.
- Developed leadership skills and experience in contributing as a team member in a multidisciplinary approach to service provision.
