This is a Pool process for Permanent Full Time/Part Time positions and Fixed Term Contracts. The pool will be reviewed every 30 days for suitable applicants to be offered fixed term contracts.

There are currently several permanent positions and fixed term contracts available for immediate filling across both business areas.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role offers a diverse range of work opportunities, including psychological intervention to high-risk violent and sexual offenders, court report writing, risk of reoffending assessments, and providing consultation and liaison support to staff who manage offenders in both the community and custody.

This is a rare opportunity for Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologists, or maybe someone working towards endorsement in either field, with strong clinical skills, seeking to further their career within the forensic space. There are two different roles within the one Job Description Form (JDF), and you can specify your interest in one or both roles. Please note that successful candidates may or may not be required to fulfil all specified role requirements – for example, not all positions are required to present evidence in Court. Role requirements will depend upon the service/business area recruited to.

Forensic Psychological Intervention Team: You will be involved in the rehabilitation of offenders who are referred to the service as part of a court imposed or release order. Intervention is targeted at reducing the risk of reoffending to enhance community safety. The role is challenging, and also very rewarding. In this role you will providing individual psychological counselling to offenders in the community or custody. You will work closely with the Community Corrections Officers who case manage the offender while they are on court orders.

Forensic Psychological Assessment Team: You will provide assessment of services for offenders either in custody or the community, to inform behavioural and/or risk management, as well as identify criminogenic treatment needs. Assessments are carried out for offenders who have committed offences of a serious nature and received terms of life or indeterminate sentences. You will also assess those offenders who are deemed to be an unacceptable risk to the community and are considered under the High Risk Serious Offenders Act 2020. In this role you may be required to provide evidence in court.

ABOUT YOU

Applicants will have an understanding of the theories and models of assessment and intervention that relate to criminal behaviour, a strong ethical compass and clear boundaries working with clients.

Pool Recruitment

This pool will be open for a period of 12 months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Permanent, fixed term, full time and part time appointments may be offered as vacancies arise; however an appointment is not guaranteed.

The Department of Justice uses recruitment pools to build a bank of talent for future opportunities. Applicants found suitable in this pool, may be considered for subsequent, similar vacancies at similar locations, with the Department of Justice for the duration of the pool.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicants are required to have an accredited Masters, Doctorate or equivalent degree in Clinical, Forensic or Counselling psychology. They must also have current general registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia and endorsement in Clinical, Forensic or Counselling Psychology.
  • Applicants are required to have a valid C Class Drivers Licence.
  • Travel within Western Australia may be required.
