About the Role
The purpose of the Psychologist role is to give priority to the safety and well-being of children and young people by providing high quality assessment, consultative and referral services to support the permanency goals of children and young people in out of home care.
This role is being offered as a Full-Time Fixed Term Contract (ending April 2025) with the possibility of extending. The role is Queensland wide, where you will provide clinical knowledge and expertise to support young people on your case load in out of home care through assessment, specialist referral, practice support and consultation using the CARE Model with specific emphasis on the principles of trauma informed, developmentally focused and competency centred approaches.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering clinical services to a complex case load of children and young people and their families, including psychological assessments, in home intervention, planning, positive behaviour support and targeted intervention.
- Undertake assessments of clients’ cognitive and learning abilities, living skills, emotional and mental health status and behavioural profile.
- Develop and monitor intervention plans and strategies around challenging behaviours exhibited by children in out of home care with high and complex needs.
- Review placement opportunities and skill development of children and young people in out-of-home care placements.
- Provide case support and consultancy to other practitioners in relation to supporting the psychological, behavioural and emotional needs of young people.
- Provide training, education and support for youth workers, carers and staff regarding therapeutic support including behaviour support plans and incident prevention and response plans for clients.
Skills and Experience
- Qualifications in Psychology and a full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia is required. Provisional psychologists are welcome to apply.
- Demonstrated experience in working with children and/or adult clients who exhibit challenging behaviours.
- Demonstrated experience in administration of a range of cognitive, psychosocial and adaptive behaviour assessment tools.
- Ability to work in partnership with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Effective time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to use initiative and think laterally and strategically as well as well-developed problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Ability to meet deadlines and Understanding of a commitment to the principles of EEO, Safety, Cultural Diversity and Ethical Practice
- Current Driver License
