Job description

Enjoy the far North lifestyle while working with Mental Health and Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Services as a Psychologist. The Mental Health and Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Service (MHATODS) is responsible for delivering Mental Health and ATOD services throughout the CHHHS and for supporting other Mental Health and ATODS in the surrounding Hospital and Health Services of Cape York, Torres Strait Northern Peninsula Area. Its primary objective is to ensure access to a comprehensive range of treatment and support services, clinical treatment, rehabilitation, disability support, as well as early intervention, and Mental Health prevention and promotion.

About you:

In your new role you will…

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in providing recreational, vocational and education services to clients with an alcohol and/or other drug issue.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in developing, implementing and evaluating health initiatives, particularly those related to alcohol and/or other drug misuse.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, experience and skills in the development of written and oral communication including interpersonal liaison, consultation, negotiation and report writing.
  • Actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational Health and safety and ethical behaviour.

About your opportunity:

In this position you will provide quality assessment and care management services to all clients referred to Cairns Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Service (ATODS). To provide coordinated delivery of optimal client care within a multidisciplinary team by integrating the role of clinician, broker and advocate in a diverse consumer focussed environment.

About your role:

  • Provide effective and efficient clinical care as described in the ATODS clinical policies, and work in collaboration with the Allied Health Team Leader and Other Team Leaders to ensure the maintenance of safe standards of patient care.
  • Deliver a range of clinical and psychosocial interventions including specialist discipline-specific therapies, counselling, psycho education, additional therapeutic investigations, and provision of direct strategic support and assistance to clients and their families as identified in the client's case plan in order to stabilise Health and lifestyle issues.
  • Develop and maintain networks and cooperative partnerships with committees and departments of the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service, the Criminal Justice System, Queensland Police Service, Department of Communities - Child Safety and Other relevant agencies.
  • Provide clinical education and practice supervision to less experienced practitioners and students with the support of senior clinical staff the referral of clients to relevant services such as detoxification, pharmacotherapy, or residential rehabilitation services in line with case plan objectives.
