POSITION OVERVIEW:
The role of a Psychosocial Recovery Coach is to provide individualised support to National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants who have a mental illness. You will work with the participant to implement the supports within the participant's plan for the purpose of building capacity, managing the impact of their disability and improving their health, well-being and participation within the community.
Key to the role is supporting and enhancing a participant’s choice and control over the supports they receive
Coordinators work collaboratively with participants, families, carers and other services to identify, plan design, and coordinate NDIS supports.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
- Provide individualised, specialised support to NDIS participants who have mental illness through strong and respectful relationships and skilled coaching
- Help improve a participant’s ability to be socially and economically independent by building on the skills required to navigate everyday life
- Accurate budget management of participant’s NDIS Plan, providing transparency to participants and your line manager, with a nil overspend (without prior Operations Manager approval)
- Provide specialist knowledge in Psychosocial Recovery, mental health, and service navigation
- Provide coordination and transition support by considering individual circumstances and level of complexity of their disability, and match participants to programs which fulfil their needs whilst providing them with continuous support and assistance
- Coach participants to be more participative in managing breaking down goals and directing their own lives
- Assist the participant to understand and implement the supports (Informal, Mainstream, and/or Funded Supports) within the person’s plan to build capacity and resilience, enable empowerment, manage the impact of the disability, and improve health, well-being, decision making and participation in the community
- Provide crisis support to participants
- Work equitably with participants with respect to each individual’s right to dignity, privacy, and independence
- Work collaboratively with participants, their families, carers and supports to design, plan, implement, review and adjust a recovery plan
- Promote and advocate for physical health as well as mental health in the recovery of people with severe mental illness
- Assist the participant on how to utilise the NDIS participant portal to make changes and service bookings.
- Provide information to participants and advocates when necessary to facilitate access to community services and facilities
- Work within the funding levels of clients’ plan and ensure sufficient billable hours as agreed by the Programme Coordinator
- Support clients to implement their NDIS plan to maximise the value for money they receive from their supports
- Make information on relevant community resources available to clients, make and follow up on referrals
- Link participants with service options corresponding with their NDIS Plan support items and funding
- Complete administration tasks, including entering accurate case notes in a timely manner and Producing all Progress reports as required.

Prior experience of disability support work is helpful

Excellent communication (written, verbal and interpersonal)
Enthusiastic about working with people with a range of disabilities
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
Willingness and ability to work with complex and challenging behaviours.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Commitment and a genuine desire to support people with disability live their best life through the principles of active support, individuality, inclusion, choice and control.
- A tertiary qualification in Peer Work or Mental Health (minimum of Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Certificate IV in Mental Health) or equivalent training; tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapist, Counselling
- And/or a minimum two years of experience in mental health related work
- Specialist knowledge and skills in Psychosocial Recovery, recovery framework, evidence-based practices, mental health and service navigation within the mental health system
- Lived experience of mental illness is highly regarded
- Complex case management experience is an advantage
- Current Victorian Driver’s License and ability to undertake travel as required
- Current First Aid and CPR credential
- Current Police and Working With Children Checks
- NDIS Worker Check
- Evidence of complete Covid 19 vaccination
- Employment History and Referee Check.
- Requires sound knowledge and understanding of the Principles and Practices of the National Framework for Recovery Oriented Mental Health Services
