The opportunity Reporting to the Director Media, Communications and Engagement, this role provides media and communications functions for the region, and requires a highly motivated individual willing to meet demanding timeframes and often competing priorities.
The role acts as a key media liaison point between the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (Townsville HHS) Board and senior executives, Townsville Public Health Unit, the Department of Health Corporate Communication Unit and the Director-General and Minister for Health's Office.
It also provides direction, advice and leadership to Townsville HHS staff on media issues while ensuring a strategic and coordinated approach to media issues and opportunities. This role is also responsible for the management of media issues and crisis response strategies, reputation management, sensitive health issues and emerging health trends for all print, broadcast and electronic media.
This role requires a strategic and creative thinker who is excellent at written communication with demonstrated experience in media and crisis management in a corporate environment.
Role requirements
- While not mandatory, a relevant qualification in journalism, communication or public relations would be highly regarded.
- Work outside of normal hours when required.
- The incumbent is expected to be on-call after hours on a shared roster.
- Travel is a requirement of the position, with overnight or longer stays at times, which may include travel by small aircraft.
- Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.

Generous remuneration package value up to $161,717 p.a.comprising:
- Salary rates between $5062.30 - $5432.80 p.f. (AO7)
- Annual leave loading + leave
