Appointment Pool

The Publications and Communication team is seeking to establish a twelve (12) month pool of Publications Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during 2024 and up to the end of May, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within 2024, up to the end of May 2025.

The School Curriculum and Standards Division (the Division) provides administrative and secretariat services for, and implements the decisions of, the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Authority provides quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all Western Australian students and students in international schools delivering the Western Australian curriculum to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.

The Publications Officers appointed from the pool should have strong communication, time management and negotiation skills, which will be an asset when collaborating with teams across the Division. Suitable applicants will ideally have an excellent eye for detail and capacity to conduct research and synthesise information quickly.

Publications Officers in the Division plan, implement, and coordinate effective writing services to support the development of content and design, publishing and distribution of publications. Suitable applicants appointed from the pool will provide high-level editing expertise and advice to staff to ensure best practice in the development of materials for print and online publication for Western Australian schools and offshore international schools delivering the Western Australian curriculum.

Publications Officers in the Division work collaboratively with staff across the Division to ensure the timely delivery of curriculum resources, liaising with staff to schedule publications and apply corporate styles.

  1. Demonstrated experience in editing, proofreading and quality assuring educational materials for a range of media and in particular, for school systems/sector and the wider community.
  2. Demonstrated experience in the design, development and delivery of publications and communications.
  3. Demonstrated well developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels.
  4. Demonstrated well developed organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads, work within a team environment and deliver outcomes on schedule.
  5. Demonstrated well developed conceptual and analytical skills with a proven ability to provide innovative thinking in developing and implementing key projects and problem solving.

Eligibility and Training Requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
