About the Portfolio
The Operations Portfolio enables an integrated, enterprise-wide delivery for best practice student and staff experiences. The Portfolio incorporates the following business units: Enterprise Projects and Business Performance (EPBP), Communications, Experience, Human Resources, Information and Technology Services (ITS), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Procurement and Property Services Group (PSG).
The Portfolio houses significant drivers and delivery components across the staff and student journeys and enables the overall experience for both groups. The Portfolio is integral in bringing the RMIT strategy to life across the globe. Each of these functions supports the global operations of the University both directly as well as through its controlled entities.
The Information Technology Services (ITS) function, provides RMIT University with current and emerging Technology systems and services. About the role
The QA Manager works within the Information Technology Services (ITS) function to lead, set direction, and allocate QA resources for the applications that are used to support our student experience.
Reporting to the Senior Enterprise QA Manager, you will define, own, and manage the QA strategies, resourcing deliverables, and activities of your spaces. You will strive to deliver excellence in QA and test practices for both streams while aligning and driving the strategic vision of the ITS QA Team.
You will collaborate with many stakeholders such as Scrum Master, Product Owner, Project Team members, Change Management Board, CISO, Accessibility Team, QA supporting functions in the Architecture and Software Engineering team, and more to sell QA values across the software engineering lifecycle, to educate them about the value of engaging QA team along and to deliver quality QA and test outcomes including QA governance, test planning, test execution, and reporting, for both functional and non-functional aspects of systems and applications.
You will lead a group of QA Leads, Senior QA Analysts, and QA Analysts embedded in Agile and Waterfall programs and projects/ initiatives that operate in a matrix structure, centrally leveraging tools, frameworks, and best practices whilst working daily within squads, programs, and projects to deliver outcomes that matter.
About you
Lead and own QA activities across 2 ITS delivery streams which consist of portfolio of programs, projects and initiatives including functional and non-functional aspects of the solutions delivered..
Foster and promote the QA Practice vision towards a QA Engineering approach, uplifting capabilities across the assigned QA team, bringing in modern QA practices, educating on best practices for QA, and driving the evolution of QA work in a DevOps environment.
Drive the delivery streams to a shift-left mindset where QA activities are considered and included early in the Software Engineering lifecycle, from designs through to delivery and operations.
Estimate test efforts across projects and initiatives, including resources, licensing, and infrastructure required.
Responsible for efficient defect management and resolution across the portfolio with relevant and fit-for-purpose reporting on QA activities and quality of releases
Design and define requirements for test environments. Work with Environment Managers to ensure the readiness, stability, and currency of test environments to support all testing activities.
Work closely with the DevOps practice to embed QA work in CI/CD pipelines, enabling faster delivery cycles whilst ensuring the quality of releases.
Engage with Strategic Delivery Partners to flex up QA resources for projects and initiatives as required, and manage partner deliverables.
Mentor, guide, and nurture a team of QA Analysts embedded in projects and initiatives as part of a matrix-based operating model.
Be a champion for automation and agile ways of working, continuously identifying new automation opportunities, and working collaboratively across ITS to deliver world-class QA.
Be the Key players of the RMIT QA Community of Practice to leverage solutions, tools, and frameworks across the organization. Continuously embedding a QA knowledge base that seeks to mature with every initiative undertaken, thus building IP and facilitating a continuous improvement mindset
Be one of the QA representatives for the Change Management Board to review and sign off QA deliverables.
Demonstrated experience in delivering a shift-left QA transformation.
Assist the Senior Enterprise QA Manager for Ad Hoc testing duties.
Experience in testing across Unit Testing, System Testing, API, SIT, User Acceptance, Performance & Volume
Good understanding of test automation integration into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps activities
