We partner with some of the world’s largest blue-chip companies and government agencies, private enterprise and public institutions.UGL now have a vacancy for a Quality and Welding Lead based in our facility at Bennetts Green, Newcastle, this role is responsible for providing Quality and Welding technology direction, guidance, and support of the Power Generation Business Unit.Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Implement Quality Assurance program with emphasis on Welding Quality in accordance with ISO 3834.2, ensuring the program is being applied and is working effectively.
  • Promote Quality Management System performance as a corporate value by raising awareness and constant communication of Quality related information to the sites and business units.
  • Serve as interface between the UGL Management System and the respective site(s) and/or business unit as a Quality Management Representative
  • Identify contract specific quality requirements, create infrastructure to capture and maintain these to align with the Quality management System.
  • Develop and investigate potential Research and Development (R&D) activities for the business, focusing on improvement of capabilities, new technologies and new businesses.
  • Assist site Quality Representatives within the business unit in the completion of QA Work Packages and Manufacturing Data Reports in accordance with project specifications and contractual requirements.
  • Liaise with Certifying Authorities and Regulatory bodies as required.
  • Liaise with Client, third parties and Inspection Agency representatives with regards to project specific documentation and to assist in the resolution of any quality issues which may arise.
  • Investigate reasons for non-conformances and assist with continuous improvement and problem-solving processes. Report on effectiveness of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Manage business unit NCR register and identify trends and resolutions to minimise contractual issues and poor performance.
  • Plan, lead and conduct internal audits including processing the related information in Synergy, following up on all actions to closure.
  • Liaise with Project Management, Supervision and Quality Team to ensure openness and fluidity to the approved inspection regimes.
About You:
  • Power generation, petrochemical, chemical, mining, or mineral processing experience (minimum 5 years)
  • Significant experience in quality roles, including welding technology/ supervision, quality assurance, quality control, document control and risk management
  • WTIA Certified Welding Supervisor
  • Knowledge of AS 3834
  • 3 years’ experience in Quality Management
  • High level knowledge of operating company management systems and ISO 9001
  • Internal Quality Auditor
  • High level of experience of developing and maintaining company management systems
  • International Welding Engineer Diploma
  • Metallurgical, welding, or nondestructive testing qualifications and experience
  • Knowledge of ‘Lean’ and continuous improvement principles
  • Multi-disciplinary experience in Projects and Shutdowns, ideally in both workshop and field-based roles
