This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024 

Butler College is seeking to appoint a dedicated Human Resource Officer to join their friendly team.

A priority of this role is to coordinate teacher relief and leave management on a daily basis, ensuring classes are covered so an understanding of staff timetabling processes is important. You should be collaborative with executive staff on recruitment activities such as deployment, selection, and appointment process for teaching and non-teaching staff. You should also collaborate with the executive team on the development and implementation of strategic Human Resources solutions to workforce planning, attraction and retention, succession planning budget/establishment management. The ideal applicant should possess the ability to contribute to continuous improvement and innovation to maximise opportunities.

The successful applicant will ideally have highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills, including the ability to undertake effective negotiations and build positive relationships with staff at all levels. You should have highly developed organisational skills and be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Butler College opened in January 2013 as an inclusive public school for secondary students in Perth's northern suburbs. The College values are at the heart of our culture: Knowledge, Integrity, and Respect.

Since 2020, our Senior Secondary students have performed exceptionally well in Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) courses, with our average median ATAR just below 80 and above comparable schools. In recent years, numerous students have won awards from the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), including Subject Certificates of Excellence, Subject Exhibition, Certificates of Distinction and Certificates of Merit. Our ATAR pathway is complemented by our General and VET pathways. We deliver Hospitality, Engineering and Sports Coaching certificate qualifications onsite and work closely with other providers to ensure our students have access to the full suite of VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS) opportunities.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Ability to provide effective support and input into the development, implementation and monitoring of human resource management systems and processes.
  • Sound written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with staff and work within a team environment.
  • Sound knowledge and skills in human resource management, including research, planning and recruitment practices.
  • Conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to implement appropriate strategies.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
