We are seeking an agricultural journalist to join our team on a 12 month contract.
The successful applicant will produce highly engaging content for our print and digital products. A solid understanding of agriculture and/or experience in agricultural fields is required. We are seeking a motivated, self-starter who enjoys working as part of a geographically diverse but close knit team.
Location is flexible for the right candidate. Preferable locations include Roma, Longreach, or Rockhampton.
The role's key responsibilities:
- Gathering, writing and self-editing news stories for publication in both print and online
- Using social media and digital storytelling tools to create engaging online content
- Building relationships with new and existing audience members to help in your ability to source stories
- Attending, reporting on and representing the masthead at sales, conferences and other events.
- Travel to attend stud sale and on-farm stories, sometimes outside of normal business hours/weekends
- Seek out fresh and exclusive leads
- Attend news meetings each morning pitching new daily content
- Produce error-free and ready-to-publish content to deadline
- Display a broad understanding of the Queensland rural industries
- Be willing to assist with copy editing and proofing
The ideal candidate:
- An industry professional with at least three years experience in either journalism or agriculture
- Someone with a high attention to detail who is self-motivated and organised
- Someone with good time management skills to help meet important deadlines
- A good communicator who is happy to network with new people
- Someone with a valid driver's licence
