About The RoleThe Kimberley Land Council is looking for a Ranger Coordinator to assist the delivery of the Kija ranger program and oversee a team of male Indigenous rangers to deliver on their annual works plan.We are looking for a dynamic and resilient individual with proven skills and capacity in Indigenous engagement, land and sea cultural and natural resource management, project management and administration. You will be a natural leader who can build bridges of common understanding within a diverse team and a wide range of external stakeholders.The position is based in Warmun and works across Kija Country in the East Kimberley of Western Australia.Key DutiesYou would be responsible for:
  • Supervising and coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Kija men rangers to ensure delivery of the annual work plan.
  • Collaborating with other coordinators and staff to develop, monitor, and report on ranger activities.
  • Day-to-day administrative management of the ranger program such as timesheets, Traditional Owner payments, maintenance and stock take of equipment and supplies.
  • Plannig, supervising and participating in field activities to remote locations associated with completing the work plan and fee for service opportunities.

Who Are We Looking For?The ideal candidate should have: * Experience and/or qualification in environmental management, conservation biology, anthropology, community development or other related field.
  • Experience managing small teams and/or coordinating on-ground natural and cultural resource management projects, preferably with Indigenous organisations.
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal social and cultural challenges in Northern Western Australia and willingness to commit to community empowerment, training and development.
  • The capacity in working independently with minimal supervision in remote areas and the ability to remain focused, positive and organised in a challenging work environment.
  • Good communication, negotiation and community consultation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in project administration and finance management including grant writing, reporting and acquittals.
  • A current valid driver's licence and experience operating 4WD vehicles remote, off-road conditions.
