City of Monash - Recreation & Open Space Planning Officer 

  • Permanent Part-time Band 5 position (2 days or 0.4 EFT) 
  • Pro Rata Salary from $76,875 pa + Superannuation

An exciting opportunity has become available within the Recreation Services team of Active Monash. The Recreation & Open Space Planning Officer is new part-time position and the successful applicant will work closely with the Coordinator Recreation & Open Space Planning to assess current and future community sport and recreational needs and develop strategies, plans and policies that activate Open Space, sport and recreational facilities to increase participation and improve the health and wellbeing of our community. 

About the Position:

We’re looking for an exceptional leader, communicator, self-starter who is dedicated to providing excellent customer service and project development and outcomes that will enhance Council's infrastructure portfolio.

Based in Glen Waverley, the Recreation & Open Space Planning Officer is responsible for the delivery of the following key responsibilities and duties:

  • A key role in the planning, facilitation and promotion of leisure activities and facilities for Monash contributing to building a vibrant, engaged and socially active community.
  • Facilitation and the delivery of responsive and effective policies, plans, projects and services at the local level by effective engagement, research, analysis and collaboration with all levels of government, local agencies and across communities.
  • Planning and facilitating activation projects which embrace and address health and wellbeing commitments within the Council Plan and other strategic plans such as Monash’s Health & Wellbeing Plan and the Monash Open Space Strategy.
  • Implementation of plans and strategies to realise Council sport and recreation goals and objectives.
  • Effectively administer, review and develop key strategies and policies in relation to active reserves, sporting facilities and associated infrastructure. 
  • Assist in the development of reserve master plans and facility plans and actively participate in the development of integrated site plans for active reserves that will inform the development of capital works priorities based on Council’s strategic directions and identified asset management priorities.
  • Effectively engage with the local community and stakeholders in the planning of Council’s active reserves, sporting infrastructure and facilities.
  • Work with the Monash community and sport and recreation groups to stimulate, develop, plan, organise and deliver a broad range of strategies, projects and initiatives to foster an active and healthy community.

About You:

  • Tertiary qualification in Sport Management, Recreation, or similar discipline.
  • Broad knowledge of recreational, sporting and community-based leisure pursuits.
  • Recreation planning, project and financial management skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the structure and workings of community-based sporting and other non-profit organisations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective customer service principles.
  • An appreciation of issues related to the provision of recreation services within the broader community setting.
  • High level of research, conceptual and analytical skills.
  • Ability to engage with and articulate and negotiated findings.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office based software.
  • Experience in coordinating and prioritising a series of diverse tasks within tight timeframes.
  • Experience in leading projects and cross function project teams.
  • Experience in the delivery of high quality customer service.
  • Experience in recreation planning and policy development.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office based software.

Requirement of the position:

  • Victoria Driver’s Licence; 
  • Employee Working with Children’s Check; 
  • Satisfactory National Police Check; and
  • Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements.

  • Tertiary qualifications in sport management, leisure/recreation planning, community development or related field.
  • Proven experience in developing recreation plans, project and policies that have involved multidisciplinary project teams and effective negotiation and consultation with a range of stakeholders and group settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and evidence-based investigations and analysis to deliver quality plans, reports and recommendations in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated skills in community and stakeholder consultation and data analysis and synthesis.
  • Proven record of demonstrating flexible and innovative responses in a changing environment.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication, organisational, presentation and administrative skills.
