About the Role

SVHM is offering Registered Nurses who hold current (condition free) AHPRA registration the opportunity to re-enter the mental health, acute& subacute nursing workforce. Our Registered Nurse Refresher Program, provides a program of education, ward-based learning and support. The Refresher Program will provide an opportunity for you to gain experience and confidence in your preferred clinical setting. The program includes access to clinical educators, skill acquisition and clinical placement on a hospital ward.

The Refresher Program will be delivered at the multiple sites across the following clinical specialities:

Mental Health Refresher Program - commencing 20th May 2024

  • Fitzroy - Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit

Acute & Sub Acute Refresher Program - commencing 27th May 2024

  • Fitzroy - General surgery, Specialist surgery, General Medicine, Oncology/Haematology, Neurology/Stroke, Critical Care, Renal/Dialysis, Rehabilitation, GEM

  • Kew - Rehabilitation, GEM

Please nominate your preferred clinical speciality within your cover letter.

The Refresher Program will be completed over 8 - 10 weeks depending on whether program is completed part or full time. It will be tailored to the individual learning needs of participants. To ensure the opportunity to consolidate learning, successful candidates must be able to commit to a minimum of three shifts per week, with two of these shifts on consecutive days.

The Refresher Program is not a paid position. Participants are, upon successful completion of the program, will be considered for ongoing employment at SVHM.

About you

You are dedicated, compassionate and adaptable. You are interested in the complex and varied patient presentations cared for in the acute hospital setting. To be eligible for the Refresher Program you must have:

  • Current nursing registration with AHPRA (condition free)

  • Clinical nursing experience within the past 8 years (negotiable)

  • Professional indemnity insurance

  • The commitment to complete the program of study and clinical placement hours

  • A willingness to undergo pre-employment screening, including reference checks and police check

  • An agreement to seek employment in the area of clinical practice on which the scholarship was awarded following the completion of the program

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

  • A high degree of accountability and a supportive and engaging style

This program is not suitable for newly qualified nurses. Applicants who have not completed a graduate nurse program, or who cannot demonstrate a work history as a registered nurse in Australia are unable to be considered.

  • Conditions apply. Participants must be Australian or New Zealand Citizen, an Australian permanent resident or hold an Australian permanent humanitarian visa and commit to seeking employment to be eligible for the scholarship. Scholarships are awarded four weeks into the program.

You may be expected to complete post graduate studies in mental health as part of your contract of employment.
