ABOUT THE ROLE

AFLNT is seeking an energetic and values driven individual to facilitate and oversee AFL participation programs and competitions in the Wadeye and West Daly communities. AFL programs are designed to support positive health, wellbeing, and social cohesion outcomes throughout Indigenous communities.

The primary focus areas for the Regional Development Lead - West Daly includes increasing AFL participation for Aboriginal women and girls and ‘youth at risk' and providing support for AFL competitions in the West Daly region. This role is responsible for planning and delivering targeted activities aligned to these focus areas through school and community-based programs.

This role is a 24-month maximum term contract position based in Wadeye, NT with service delivery throughout surrounding remote Aboriginal communities in the West Daly region.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for developing strong working relationships with Traditional Owners, partner organisations, service providers and schools in the region.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

Key Accountabilities:

  • Plan, deliver and report on targeted AFL activities aligned to AFLNT programs and funded initiatives.
  • Plan for consistent and structured program delivery for all age groups and genders in Wadeye including school-based activities and community competitions and AFL carnivals.
  • Embed consistent and engaging junior AFL programs for youth including, Auskick and Superkick programs, and AFL competitions for males and females.
  • Deliver AFL competitions for senior men, women, and youth.
  • Facilitate and deliver targeted in-school programs to support school attendance.
  • Host meaningful school holiday programs and targeted health promotions.
  • Facilitate AFL Coach and Umpire accreditation courses throughout Indigenous communities.
  • Work closely and collaborate with partner organisations to ensure a consistent and diverse range of program offerings are available for youth and young people throughout remote Aboriginal communities.
  • Facilitate the Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre (MLLLC) programs for students throughout the West Daly Region.
  • Provide support to the broader AFLNT team throughout the region including events, competitions, and program support.
  • Provide guidance and community connections with the local senior men's and women's community competitions.
  • Keep up-to-date reporting and participation statistics on AFL participation outcomes.
  • Manage AFL assets appropriately and regularly.

OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER

Core Competencies:

  • Ability to work autonomously, manage time effectively, meet deadlines and utilise on-ground support to achieve key program outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication skills, and experience building rapport with a diverse range of people.
  • Experience in building and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders with the ability to collaborate with and proactively influence.
  • Able to coordinate, train and recognise volunteers in the football environment.
  • Proficient in managing an AFLNT fleet vehicle, including regular servicing and condition reports.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural awareness and previous experience in Indigenous communities.
  • Strong self-awareness and able to seek appropriate support when required during difficult times.
  • Able to work within the structures and policies of the AFL, AFLNT and AFLNT Remote Projects team.
  • Valid manual driver's licence and NT Working with Children's Check (Ochre Card).
  • Valid, or willing to acquire, Bronze Medallion, light rigid driver's licence, First Aid Certificate and Level 2 AFL Coaching Accreditation.
  • Willingness to work weekends and after hours, and ability to travel to remote Indigenous communities (including driving un-sealed roads and by light aircraft).
