About the NLC
The Northern Land Council (NLC) was established under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act in 1976, to assist Aboriginal people in the Top End of the Northern Territory to acquire and manage their traditional lands, waters and seas.
Nearly 50 years on we continue to serve over 50,000 Aboriginal people of the Top End and remain committed to enhancing Aboriginal peoples social, political and economic participation by ensuring their voices are heard on a range of issues impacting on their lands, seas and communities.
About the Role
The Caring for Country section works with Traditional Owners and other relevant Aboriginal people to support them with the management of their customary land and sea estates in accordance with their priorities and aspirations.
Regional Program Coordinator works collaboratively with program support staff, ranger group and Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) coordinators and government agencies to support the management of Aboriginal ranger programs, IPA projects, Commonwealth and NT National Park joint management arrangements, and other regional land and sea management priorities as directed by our constituents.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support a medium sized team of dispersed staff to manage ranger programs, IPA and park joint management projects.
- Develop projects, annual work plans and budgets, monitor performance and ensure compliance with funding agreements.
- Supervise and mentor staff, identify individual training and mentoring priorities, conduct annual performance reviews and develop opportunities for career progression.
- Identify local level capacity needs that impact on the ability of the ranger groups and IPA managers to deliver on their priorities and develop solutions.
About you
To thrive in this role you will have:
- Demonstrated understanding of, and interest in, the lived experiences of Aboriginal people in the NLC region.
- Demonstrated high level cross-cultural, interpersonal and verbal communication skills with an ability to effectively liaise, engage and coordinate across an organisation and to build productive working relationships with work colleagues, constituents and external stakeholders.
- Completion of Tertiary qualifications in natural and cultural resource management or a relevant related field and/or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop teams of people within a cross cultural context, lead change, and manage complex political and staff management issues within a remote context.
- Experience liaising with government and non-government agencies, negotiating funding and/or other types of program support and managing budgets.
- Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills of a high order, including demonstrated ability to work under pressure, prioritise work and meet deadlines.
Remuneration and Benefits:
- Full-Time Permanent contract
- Location: Darwin
- Salary: $103,600 - $120,387

- 5 weeks annual leave & 17.5% annual leave loading
