Job description

An opportunity has arisen for an energetic and enthusiastic Palliative Care Registered Nurse (Division 1) to join the Toowoomba Hospice Nursing Team on a casual basis. This position is best suited to a professional who is compassionate and who genuinely aspires to support people to live their last days with dignity, love, and dedicated care.

We are seeking a Registered Nurse who can immediately take on a casual position.

You will be required to demonstrate current knowledge and skills in delivering appropriate symptom management, and support for terminal patients and their family and or carers. The successful applicant will also be involved in quality improvement and service development initiatives.

The Toowoomba Hospice is a not for profit, accredited, private, 6 bed healthcare facility, based in Toowoomba. The Toowoomba Hospice has been well supported by community funding for over 18 years. We provide culturally appropriate, patient centred palliative care, to our clients and their families.

Requirements

Skills and Experience

Current registration with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency

Minimum of 3-5 Years’ Nursing Experience in palliative care, acute care, or community nursing

Additional nursing experience in Palliative care 

Current professional development portfolio

Evidence of extensive Clinical skills

Successful applicants will be subject to a criminal history check

Successful applicants may be required to disclose any previous serious disciplinary action.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency or a right to stay indefinitely. To be eligible for temporary appointment, applicants must provide proof that they can legally work in Australia for the period of the vacancy

Demonstrate an understanding of palliative care assessment and care planning within your scope of practice

Demonstrate an understanding of palliative care standards and national care standards

Demonstrate the ability to work within the Hospice culture which aligns with values of compassionate, ethical, and objective care

Participate and contribute productively as a team member to form culturally appropriate, professional working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, including children, young people and families, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), and other service providers

Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills: confidently present complex information and concepts clearly, succinctly, and sensitively, both orally and in writing particularly when faced with challenging circumstances and a strong sense of professional boundaries and integrity

Demonstrate evidence of integration of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, critical thinking, and analysis in their daily practice as a Registered Nurse

Deliver accountable and collaborative integrated palliative care that respects the culture and context of each client and their family, and community in accordance with policies and procedures, statutory responsibilities, and legislation

Demonstrated effective time management skill and ability to prioritize competing workloads within a complex environment

Capacity to escalate concerns and implement appropriate steps required

Provide emotional support for clients and families

Be flexible, with the ability to respond to changing requirements and timeliness

Demonstrate the ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment

Demonstrate the commitment to own personal and professional development

Display personal drive and integrity: You can exercise professional judgement and take personal responsibility for delivering quality outcomes while maintaining professional practice and behaviour in a challenging and complex environment

Enthusiastically embrace the mission and values of the Hospice

Supports strategic direction: You understand the organizational goals and recognize how your role contributes to quality improvements

Participate and contribute to a culture of continuous learning, training, and professional development, to ensure practice knowledge and skills are contemporary and evidence based

Draw on demonstrated provisional expertise in one or more disciplinary areas in order to undertake more complex and/or demanding workloads and/or provide training and support to less experienced nurses, student nurses, personal care assistant and volunteers

Demonstrated basic computer literacy (e.g., MS Word, email, online training)
