Where you will be based
Community Mental Health Services provide a range of services designed to help support the recovery and help consumer stay well in the community. The team provide specialist services for young people, children and families, adults, and older people. Community mental health services include a specialist Aboriginal Mental Health Team, bilingual mental health workers and Peer Support Workers. Our main sites are at Canterbury, Croydon, Camperdown, Marrickville, and Redfern Community Health Services.
This position will be based at Camperdown Community Health Centre.
About the role
The Community Adolescent Outreach Service model of care states:The CAOS outpatient program provides specialist multidisciplinary assessment and integrated treatment to young people between 12-18 years of age thought to have mental problems.
The service particularly focus on the assessment and management of young people 12-18 years of age who are enrolled in the secondary education system and are:
- difficult to engage.
- more in out-of-home care.
- Indigenous population of Inner West.
- living in families struggling to meet the requirements of structured mental health service.
- those who have presented to emergency department or with suicidality.
- referred via Mental Health Telephone Access Line.
The Mental Health Nurse will practice in keeping with the standardised Sydney LHD position description for the profession in addition to this position description.
We are looking for someone who has…
- Recognised tertiary qualifications in Nursing/Mental Health and full current AHPRA registration.
- Demonstrated competencies to provide contemporary mental health practice.
- Current NSW Driver's Licence (P2 Licence acceptable).

About working for SLHD
This is a Category A position. To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy (PD2023_022)
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form).
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
Child protection – child protection is the core responsibility of all who work in the Child and Adolescent mental health service. All staff are required to have detailed knowledge of and comply with policies and procedures relating to Child Protection and the NSW Health Code of Conduct. All clinicians are responsible for ensuring that identified issues are documented, escalated and action occurs as appropriate.
