The Clinical Research Centre (CRC), as part of the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN), enables children with rare diseases to access novel therapies and innovative research in a safe, family-friendly environment. At the CRC, our Clinical Research Nurses take a lead role in collaborating with clinical investigators and industry partners to prepare and conduct paediatric clinical trials. As the primary interface between trial participants, families and clinicians, Clinical Research Nurses use and build upon their communication, problem-solving and core nursing skills to deliver care through research. 

As a Clinical Research Nurse, you will: work Monday-Friday at the Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick; develop clinical and research skills with support from a Clinical Nurse Educator; be part of groundbreaking research; and partner with patients and families in a potentially life-changing journey. What you'll be doing: The Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) provides safe, compassionate, high-quality, and person-centred care to patients and families of Sydney Children’s Hospital Network participating in clinical trials. This role will assist with the coordination and implementation of paediatric clinical trials across a wide range of specialities. The Clinical Research Nurse will participate in the recruitment of research participants, facilitation of the informed consent process, administration of investigational drugs, close patient monitoring and reporting of safety events, and accurate collection and submission of data, in line with the study protocols, ICH Guideline for Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and local/international research regulations. The Clinical Research Nurse will be expected to interact with colleagues, patients and their families in a way that reflects the NSW Health CORE values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment.


What you'll be doing
To provide a standard of excellence for all patients by implementing and maintaining high quality nursing care within a safe environment.

The Clinical Research nurse is responsible for providing clinical support for Clinical Research projects. The position involves trial management, patient recruitment, interview and vaccination, taking blood samples, database entry, data management and other research activities.

Please note that throughout the recruitment process you will be assessed with the following:

  • Registered Nurse with a current license to practice from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Knowledge of Clinical Research and previous experience in one or more of the following; vaccine administration, research methodology, clinical trial co-ordination, performing venipuncture
  • Demonstrated excellent organisational skills, strong effective communication and interpersonal skills and ability to be flexible in work projects and hours of work
  • Demonstrated initiative with regards working independently and making suggestions for improvement whilst contributing effectively to the clinical trial and research team
  • Appropriate qualifications to administer vaccines or willingness to achieve same
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft computer packages (Word, Excel, Access) and familiarity with literature searching
  • Demonstrated commitment to evidence based nursing practice and continuous quality improvement of nursing services
  • Previous demonstrated experience in data entry and data management, simple data analysis and technical report writing

As part of your application please address the following questions:

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). 
  2. Considerable nursing experience working in a tertiary hospital setting. 
  3. Experience or strong interest in the administration, coordination, and delivery of paediatric clinical trials. 
  4. Demonstrated excellent organisational skill and ability to prioritise workload with competing demands. 
  5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effective including verbal, written and interpersonal skills. 
  6. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and autonomously while adhering to scope of practice. 
  7. Computer literacy, including experience in Microsoft office and clinical applications. 
  8. Ability to be flexible with working hours to meet the needs of clinical trial workload.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
