The Role:


This role is a permanent part-time position within the Day Cancer Centre (DCC you will be responsible for ensuring that clinical practice and delivery of care is consistent with RCH and Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board standards. You will provide comprehensive, safe, evidence-based practice to facilitate optimal health outcomes for our patients. This opportunity within the DCC will use your integrated health care knowledge and skills to provide safe and effective care. We offer excellent professional development to enhance your nursing practice and conduct comprehensive and systematic nursing assessments to improve the quality of our nursing care.
 
What you’ll achieve:

  • Fulfil duty of care by practicing within scope of practice in accordance with Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board guidelines
  • Demonstrate your analytical skills in assessing and evaluating health information
  • Participate in quality improvement activities
  • Plan nursing care in consultation with others (i.e. multidisciplinary health care team)

 
Classification for this position with range from $71,333.60 to $95,378.40 per annum, plus superannuation
 
Your skills and experience:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Profession al practice Portfolio

Day Cancer Centre (DCC):

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) Children's Cancer Centre (CCC) is the largest partner in the Victorian Paediatric Integrated Cancer Services (PICS) and is a member of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Care program. The CCC is the only provider of complex children's Cancer Care and stem cell transplantation in the state of Victoria. The CCC is recognised as an international leader in the research and treatment of childhood cancer, each year treating around 300 newly diagnosed cancer patients under the age of 18 and many children receive ongoing treatment and/or active patient follow up.

The CCC aims for the highest standards in diagnosis, research, treatment, and support. The CCC comprises: an inpatient ward with designated bone marrow transplant beds, a day oncology unit, outpatient clinic area including allied health facilities, a dedicated oncology pharmacy, a research program with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, a clinical trials office and an administrative centre.

The DCC is a specialist oncology day unit within the CCC with 15 chairs. We are a nurse led unit but work in conjunction with the wider Children’s Cancer Centre multidisciplinary team. 

We provide treatments such as Chemotherapy, Blood transfusions, central line care, drug infusions and sedation, with the list continuing to grow as we expand our service.

Registered Nurses are supported and encouraged to practice autonomously and to participate in ongoing professional development. DCC has introduced a CSN in order to provide an education program specific to childhood cancer.

The DCC staff are comprised of a dedicated team of nurses. Comprehensive orientation is available for new staff on the unit with additional support available for those wishing to make the transition from adult to paediatric nursing.
