About Rainbow Club  

Rainbow Club is a registered charity with over 50 years’ experience, helping children with a disability learn to swim and be safe in the water.   

We have over 77 clubs and 2,400 members in NSW and QLD, with plans to increase our footprint to meet the increasing demand from the community. We also employ over 300 qualified swimming teachers on a casual basis to provide personalised swimming lessons and aqua exercise to children and young adults with a disability. 

About the role 

The Registered Nurse - Disability Clinical Advisor will provide direct disability-related support services to Rainbow Club’s NDIS teachers and members that align to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Practice Standards, individual participant’s NDIS goals and outcomes. 

The Registered Nurse - Disability Clinical Advisor will also provide clinical advice and training and undertake audits and reviews.  In addition, they will establish and maintain effective processes to support teachers and volunteers in the delivery of high-quality swimming programs to children and young adults with a disability in a safe and supportive environment. 

The role is part-time hours, WFH and applicants must be based in the Sydney.  There is a requirement for up to 4 working weekend days in each school term.  This would suit somebody looking for flexibility with hours on a part-time basis. 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Assess support plans for members and liaise with health professionals to provide advice and training for teaching staff on effective practices with individual members.  
  • Conduct audits specific to teaching and member support. Prepare reports for management on findings and recommendations, identifying opportunities for improvement to systems, processes, and work practices. 
  • As part of the Quality and Programmes Team, assess, plan, implement, and evaluate education and staff development programs for teaching staff to ensure best practice. 
  • Provide clinical advice on infection control practices and health responses to infectious diseases including the use of PPE. 
  • Inform, contribute, and develop Policy and Procedures in partnership with the Quality and Programmes Manager.   
  • Provide advice and information to the Board as required. 
  • Work with teaching staff and volunteers to ensure exceptional and quality care according to member’s needs. 
  • Provide professional training to our growing team of teachers and volunteers.  
  • Conduct an on-the-job assessment of teachers' and volunteers’ competencies, advising improved methods of member interaction to reduce incidents and improve the member experience.  
  • Where there are supports that are deemed as “high risk” or “complex”, take the initiative to ensure that appropriate assessments are conducted, and appropriate supports are implemented to ensure safety for the participant, teachers, and volunteers. 
  • Review incidents in partnership with the Quality & programmes team to improve service provision.  
  • Update the Senior Management Team on relevant NDIS changes, ensuring policies and procedures reflect these changes.  
  • Manage external specialists, including but not limited to Occupational Therapists and Exercise Physiologists as required.   

About you 

  • Bachelor of Nursing or recognised equivalent 
  • A broad range of current health/medical/disability knowledge 
  • Understanding of the role of a clinician within the disability sector 
  • Knowledge of NDIS Practice Standards and implementation requirements 
  • Expert knowledge in disability and the health issues relevant to people with disability 
  • Previous experience within the aquatic industry and/or with a community-based Charity/Not-For-Profit organisations would be desirable. 
  • Knowledge of current Australian Health System and ability to apply this to practice. 
  • Understanding of organisational responsibility to meet the NDIS Act (2013) and other legislative requirements. 
  • Be self-motivated, collaborative, and an experienced people manager. 
  • Proven ability to develop, review and implement programmes. 
  • Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills 
  • Proven leadership skills to engage and inspire staff and volunteers. 
  • Excellent communication skills both social, written, and verbal. 
  • Current NSW Drivers’ License
