Registered Nurse (RN) Transition to Practice (Graduate) Program (12months, 52-54 weeks)
Permanent contract, Variable FTE
Full Time/Part-Time, minimum 64hrs/fortnight

About the Role

Grampians Health - (All Campuses) is currently seeking applications for the 2024 Transition to Practice (Graduate) Program. Grampians Health is committed to offering our Graduate Nurses ongoing employment including further rotations in our Enhancement year (Ballarat) or ongoing employment other campuses.

  • Opportunity to submit preferences of where you will be allocated prior to the conclusion of their Graduate Transition Program
  • comprehensive 4 day orientation program and a further 6 professional development days
  • Supernumerary time at the commencement of each rotation and regular Graduate debrief sessions
  • Develop self-confidence, critical thinking, decision making, clinical skills and clinical competence as part of the multifaceted role of the Registered Nurse
  • Facilitate practical and theoretical learning opportunities

Key Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the Nurse Unit Manager and the team to support and enhance the core business of the designated clinical area
  • Actively participate in the Graduate Nurse Program, including completion of all requirements outlined in Graduate Orientation.
  • Be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based nursing care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal healthcare outcomes
  • Practices independently and interdependently assuming accountability and responsibility for their own actions and the delegation of care to other healthcare workers as required
  • Provide high quality, comprehensive and evidence-based patient centred care whilst acting as a resource and role model to other staff

Skills & Experience

  • Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological and spiritual support to staff, patients/residents their families and carers.
  • Maintains relationships with the health care team by communicating information, building rapport and participating in team problem solving.
  • Participates and engages in the annual performance review and professional development plan in accordance with Grampians Health Staff Development Program

All appointments are subject to a satisfactory police records check, immunisation clearance and Working with Children check and/or NDIS Worker Screening Check.

All employees must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required, which at a minimum is a surgical mask.  Additional PPE requirements are role-dependent.

This position is paid in accordance with the Nurses and Midwives (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2020 - 2024. The classification is Registered Nurse Grade 2 (YP2 - YP9) which ranges from $34.17 - $48.26 per hour.

The program involves three (3) clinical rotations, including: General Medical and General Surgical, Urology, Orthopaedics, Perioperative Day Procedure Unit (PDPU), Mental Health Placement (AAU), Oncology and Gandarra Palliative Care, Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, Inpatient Complex Care Unit, Care Communities (Residential Care Areas), OPD -Surgical Specialist Clinics, Dialysis Unit & other ambulatory care units, and specialty areas Paediatric & Adolescent Unit, Perioperative Suite (Theatre), Mental Health Placement (AAU),ICU / CCU, Emergency Department, Midwifery (double degree applicants)

Grampians Health Ballarat is the largest regional health service within the Grampians region and is the principal referral hospital. Ballarat admits more than 36,000 acute inpatients, performs more than 7,300 surgical operations, delivers greater than 1,500 babies and treats more than 61,000 patients through the Emergency Department per annum.

The clinical component of the Graduate Nurse Program consists of three or four clinical
rotations including one three (3) or six (6) month rotation through our large Medical/Surgical Oxley Department.
Graduates are then asked to list in order of preference interest in speciality areas, Paediatric Unit, Perioperative Suite (Theatre), Emergency Department, Aged Care (care communities),District Nursing

Grampians Health Horsham Campus is based in the Wimmera sub-region of the Grampians (Gariwerd), 310km west of Melbourne. Our Horsham and Dimboola campuses service an area of 61,000square kilometres and a population of approximately 54,000 people. Horsham and Dimboola campuses provide a range of acute, subacute, residential aged care, allied health, primary care, emergency and critical care services to our community.

Grampians Health Edenhope is a small rural health service in western Victoria almost on the South Australian border, and one hour south of the Western Highway from Kaniva.

The hospital was founded in 1930 and occupied a small house. Over the years various re-locations, additions, renovations, and expansions have occurred to provide the current services:
20 bed hospital, Lakeside Living 40 bed Residential Aged Care, Elsie Bennett Community Health Centre, Medical Clinic – GP Family Practice, Urgent Care.

From its humble, yet ambitious beginnings on the Stawell goldfields more than 150 years ago, Grampians Health Stawell is today one of the Wimmera region’s most progressive health care providers. Grampians Health Stawell offers a diverse range of integrated and related health services in our modern hospital, carried out by a cooperative team of medical professionals and visiting specialists.

We have a 29-bed ward and six-day surgery beds in our Simpson Wing, operating theatre and an urgent care department. This is supported by a medical imaging department, pharmacy department and Clinical Labs Pathology.

Rotation areas may include: Acute (medical/surgical), Theatre, Community Nursing, Residential Aged Care (care communities), Urgent Care, Oncology
