Lions Haven for the Aged places clinical excellence and service delivery at the forefront of operations. The residential aged care home acknowledges the importance of maintaining and enhancing quality standards reflective of contemporary care and governance best practices. This is crucial to ensure residents continue to receive high-quality care and can exercise their right to be treated with dignity and respect. The quality lead will be responsible for overseeing the quality aspects of the home to meet compliance against the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission standards and associated legislations.
Work environment:
The role requires the Registered Nurse to be onsite to provide support and mentorship to the clinical team in the implementation of the continuous improvement plan, key legislative changes, and upcoming accreditations.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Clinical nursing care:
• Support the implementation of quality improvement systems and processes to enhance high quality care, manage and minimise clinical safety risks and support a robust clinical governance framework.
• Review clinical care incidents to understand and report on trends and themes.
• Monitor and review existing processes and systems to support quality-based service delivery to our residents.
• Conduct ongoing quality review of wound management and care requirements.
• Complete quality assurance checks and audits to meet internal and external auditing requirements for both the organisation and government bodies.
• Facilitate clinical adverse outcome and complaint investigations and correlating submission and where appropriate collaborate with families, clinical director and CEO.
• Assist in development, implement and maintaining clear and concise policies that ensure legislative and standard compliance.
• Contribute to clinical governance and clinical care meetings with the multi-disciplinary team to report on existing clinical risks, the effectiveness of mitigating risks as well as recommendations to improve if necessary.
• Demonstrate and maintain effective communication and open disclosure to ensure residents, resident representatives remain fully informed in a timely manner and can provide consent where necessary.
• Assist Clinical Director to develop programs in areas such as clinical training requirements and competencies.
• Demonstrate understanding of workplace health and safety principles.
• Other tasks as delegated by the Clinical Director.
Nursing care systems:
• Ensure timely completion of accurate, up to date and legible documentation for all care planning tasks on all clinical systems/software platforms.
• Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc auditing and reporting requirements.
Professional practice:
• Maintains awareness of current legislation to ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure care provision is evidence-based and practiced as per current clinical guidelines.
• Practice within the organisation’s policy and nursing standards and codes of practice.
• The Registered Nurse’s performance, fulfilment of responsibilities and duties will be monitored by 3 monthly, 6 monthly and yearly appraisals in accordance with the nursing standards for practice.
• Professional and personal development will be supported and encouraged by Lions Haven for the Aged clinical director.
• The Registered Nurse is responsible for completing all mandatory and requisite training and education on time.
• If it is necessary to expand the role to include additional responsibilities, adequate training and support will be provided by Lions Haven for the Aged.
