The Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (DYHS) was established in 1974 and is the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health service provider in Western Australia, providing care to over 20,000 Aboriginal patients across four clinics in East Perth, Mirrabooka, Maddington and Midland.
Our staff enable the delivery of culturally responsive primary health services, focusing on prevention, early intervention, comprehensive care and care coordination including chronic disease management.
About the Role
A new opportunity has become available for a fixed term Registered Nurse - Sexual Health to join the DYHS Team. This role is responsible for screening, prevention, treatment and monitoring of sexually transmissible infections (STI’s), HIV and Blood Borne Viruses (BBV) with a particular focus on assisting with addressing the syphilis outbreak.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Provide culturally appropriate sexual health care for Aboriginal clients;
- Provide screening and assessments, intervention and case management to reduce the spread of Sexually Transmissible Infections (STI’s) HIV and Blood Borne Viruses (BBV);
- Educate the clients and other health service professionals / stakeholders regarding STI’s;
- Conduct health promotion activities to increase the awareness within the community and to reduce the spread of STI’s, HIV and BBV;
- Deliver best practice sexual health and blood borne virus (BBV) prevention and management services and educate clients regarding sexual health protection options;
- Provide opportunistic syphilis testing across all clinics;
- Follow up, monitor and manage clients with STI’s;
- Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate sexual health strategies and programs.
We’re seeking candidates, with the following:
- Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse;
- Minimum of three years post clinical experience as a registered nurse and post graduate qualifications in Sexual Health and Vaccination or willingness to obtain within agreed timeframe;
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and take responsibility for own actions and to practice in accordance with the Registered Nurse Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, and Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia);
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of communicable disease control, harm reduction, and issues related to transmission and prevention of HIV, STIs and Blood Borne Viruses (BBV's);
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology, written and verbal means with sound interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people;
- Demonstrate organisational and problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of the multi-disciplinary health care team;
- A commitment to quality improvement, practice development, evidence-based practice and research;
- Demonstrated ability to provide the provision of culturally safe and appropriate services to Aboriginal clients;
- Current Full WA Drivers Licence;
- A National Police Clearance that is not older than two (2) years and maintained every three (3) years from date of issue;
- COVID 19 Vaccination (Fully Vaccinated).
