The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community. The Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT) within MCV provides financial assistance to victims of crime committed in Victoria. VOCAT aims to assist victims of crime in their recovery by providing an accessible and empathetic service for those who require financial support.
About the role
This role will work within the Melbourne Registry team to case manage their own allocation of VOCAT applications and exercise delegated powers to assist victims of crime, in conjunction with a VPS2 Administrative Deputy Registrar.
Registrars of the Tribunal perform a wide range of administrative tasks within the Tribunal, including client contact (email, telephone and counter) enquiries, back-of-office administrative responsibilities and case management duties.
About you
The position operates within a complex, demanding and sensitive environment that requires the capacity to exercise sound judgement, liaise effectively with a number of stakeholders including the Judiciary, Victoria Police, legal practitioners, various court user groups as well as members of the public. It is essential that the person possesses excellent interpersonal and both verbal and written communication skills. An understanding of the VOCAT jurisdiction and the powers and functions of a registrar of the Tribunal are fundamental to the role.
This is a fantastic development opportunity for someone with a passion for working with victims. A legal, criminology or justice-related qualification will be highly regarded.
